Hey all,

I have read through numerous board posts and this is my last ditch effort to see if I missed something. Neither the dash plug or the bed plug are working in my 21 LT Trail Boss. I have the switch that needs to be turned on and it lights up fine but no power outlet for me.

I have already checked and replaced the labeled fuses that I’m aware that relate (19 under the hood, 27 on the passenger panel) as well as a brand new relay for the ac/dc inverter in the engine bay fuse box.

At this point I’m thinking the inverter itself has gone bad and was going to pick one up and replace it myself, but was curious if anyone else had come across this and had a magic solution I’ve overlooked? I’d rather not go to the dealership since I’m out of warranty (100k miles) but will if it comes to it. I use the plug to charge my power station while camping that runs our fridge and other things. Awesome set up when it works…

Thanks in advance.

Not trying to insult you at all. Just making sure you know it only works when the truck is running. It also defaults to off every time you kill the eginine.

Making it almost worthless
And don't try plugging in a "steamer" to get the wrinkles out of your suit jacket on the way to a wedding. Not enough amps/watts whatever to power it :p

No insult taken. Yes this is happening as the truck is on with the switch on. Its has worked for the last year just fine but stopped working for our spring break camping trip of course.

After everything else you tried I bet the inverter burned up. I don't even know where it is located.

Well I ordered an inverted out of a wrecked Silverado same year. I’ll update when I get it in a let you know if that solves it.

Isn't there upgraded after market inverters for sale that could be installed?

Probably…. I just got an equivalent since it worked great for what I needed (12v fridge and BLUETTI 180) but if I run into the same problem I’ll look for an upgrade. Looking to get it in tomorrow.

So that took longer to get to than expected. Fairly easy install just kept putting it off. Good news is it works now! So the inverter in my 2021 had indeed gone out. I did just buy an inverter off eBay out of a wreck and worked great.

Knowing now how easy it was to get to I may upgrade to a better inverter in the future.

So funny story it happened again… but I figured out why and wanted to share for anyone else.

Once again we are on our way across the west for our annual spring break camping trip. Somewhere in New Mexico I discover the 110v outlets aren’t working again. Cue flashback to last year. Mild panic but I’ve done this before I know the fuses to check and even have a spare relay. They are all fine just like last time but the plugs aren’t working. That’s when it all clicks…

We have a Setpower 12v fridge that is usually the only thing that gets plugged into the truck normally, but do long trips (such as the once a year spring break 8 day camping trip) I bring out BLUETTI AC180 power station. Clever guy I am I plug the fridge into the power station and power station into the truck to stay topped up.

Genius right? Well turns out the power station can charge off the truck… briefly until chaos takes over. The power station is designed to draw slowly at first (200 watts) and ramp up (1100 watts peak) when plugged into AC power (house plug). What I discovered happened is like the old tale of frogs jumping out if thrown into a pot of boiling water but not noticing if it starts at room temperature and increases to boiling.

The power station starts drawing well within the trucks capacity, but as it slowly increases its draw it doesn’t pop fuses with an immediate shock but burns out the unit itself with the slow ramp up.

Don’t charge power stations from the 110v plugs. Use the 12v cigarette lighter and avoid the problem.

Now to install another inverter…. Third times the charm right?

I also have a '21 1500 LT Trail Boss, build date 12-2020. Mine has the 6.2L engine with the 10 speed, 10L80 tranny. Physically, where IS the inverter in your truck?

My AC outlets have NEVER worked, and I've checked the fuses and the switch a couple of times. So, based on your experience, I think that the stock inverter may have been kaput from the factory. I'm going to put a larger inverter in mine and do away with the the stock one and upgrade wiring and other parts where necessary. I live on a working farm and my previous truck was a Tundra, and it was really nice to be able to run real tools like a SkilSaw or Sawsall or small MIG welder or side grinder off the truck outlets.

Sorry for the late reply. Inverter is behind the back of the rear seat. You have to remove the rear seats to get to it which isn’t hard but a pain for sure.
