Hey guys, so my cousin owns his own small dealership and recently acquired a 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT Trailboss 4x4 Z71. One owner previously (old man who passed away sadly). The truck is beautiful & has 81,000 miles. They’re willing to not make $$ off it and give it to me for $36K. Trying to do my due diligence in research before committing. Does anyone have any experiences or knowledge with this year/truck in specific? This would be my first truck, though I do drive a Ford for work. I’ve seen some mixed reviews on it - seems like a lot of recalls. If anyone has any insight they could provide it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Definitely go drive it! My dad has a 2019 LT and his transmission has never been right. It hard shifts all the time from 1st to 2nd gear, but he's always told from the dealer that it is functioning as it should from GM. He actually took it to the dealer today because it's slipping in and out of gear when driving down the road, curious what they have to say about it.

I can't speak to that specific year, but the trail boss is a great truck. The issues are typical GM stuff. Bad service updates, innovation that only creates hassle and sometimes sketchy or dubious service advice and findings. If that's something you can handle I'd say go for it if you like it.

I bought my 2019 Custom new in November of that year. It's got the older drivetrain; 5.3 with active fuel management (not dynamic fuel management), 6L80E trans and 3.42 diff gears. I've had it to the dealer 3 times. Once for the first oil change and seat belt recall, once for hard shifting with MIL on that was addressed with a software update and once for an apple car play update. I do all the maintenance myself and I absolutely love this truck. It does everything I ask it to and for a full size truck it is really capable off road (especially with bigger tires... I'm running 34x11.5 18). I've gotten some pretty funny looks from the Jeep folks when I meet them on a trail...

As with any used car purchase, do your due diligence... Run the VIN! See what the truck has for power train and issues reported for those specific components. Test drive, look over service records (regular oil changes with the correct oil are REALLY important on direct injected engines), recalls completed, accidents, climb under and look for damage. 81,000 miles still would give that truck a-lot of life left, but if it hasn't been serviced you can expect to have to put some $$ into servicing, fluids/suspension/brakes/belts/hoses etc...

Good luck!

Practically every dealer will tell you that they aren't making much on the sale. Their idea of not making much is still probably $4000-$5000, but they are in business to make money and have to pay taxes and other overhead costs. I gave $45k 15 months ago on an LT TB with 56,000 mi, so I would say that is a decent price but not a steal.
