Hey everyone. Is anyone else experiencing a rattling sound when coming to a stop? Only last about 2 sec but is very annoying. Dealer replaced my cat back exhaust but sound is still occurring. The sound is like a metal tinging sound.

Does the sound appear to be coming from the engine bay, or from somewhere else? If the engine bay, does it sound like a ticking noise at all? If so, it could be a collapsed lifter issue. Common issue on the V8's, unfortunately.

It only does it when coming to a stop. Nothing at idle or when driving at a constant speed. Hard to pin point. Front to mid, this is why they started with replacing exhaust. The other strange thing I discovered is if you put the truck in L9 ( which keeps it in 8 cylinders) it doesn’t do it.

That L9 trick does make me lean more towards the lifters. But it could just be something rattling because maybe the engine vibrates more when those cylinders deactivate. The cylinders reactivate to V8 mode when coming to a complete stop. So it must be something along those lines. Keep us posted on what you find out!

The dealer doesn’t seem to think it’s the lifters. Only because it’s not constant. Very annoying and disappointed, cause I love the truck. I had a ram rebel before this. Nothing against the ram but a 6.2 Silverado is on another level. Hopefully the deal can figure it out and I’ll update as soon as I find out.

I had lifter issues and they weren't consistent then either. I have heard of the ticking happening at different times on different vehicles. Warm, cold, when idling, only at a certain speed, etc. Mine was only with a cold start, then went away before the RPM's came down to normal. And yes, I love my 6.2! I knew I wanted some acceleration abilities to go with my offroad truck, for the perfect combo lol. More power than Ram's 5.7 (they would have been smart to also offer the 6.4 in those Rebels for a decent upcharge), and I am pretty sure these Trail Boss's weigh less than the Ram Rebels too.

Thanks for the input, much appreciated. Time will tell. Have extended warranty so whatever it is won’t cost me a thing. Just annoying on a brand new truck.

So a little update. Truck has been to dealer 3 times now and they have concluded that this is normal. I guess next step is to contact General Motors directly.

Just wondering if you ever heard back from anyone curious myself what it might be

I am literally having the same problem with mine and it drives me absolutely nuts!!! Had my brakes and rotors replaced , leaf spring replaced , things lubed up.. it’s been to dealership numerous times also. I also have a 2022 Trail boss 6.2 .

Very annoying. Still haven’t heard back from GM. To me it seems like the DFM system, because if you put it into L9 it goes away. Keeping it in L9 deactivate the DFM. And I have found that fuel mileage isn’t that much different when driving in L9. Although on the highway I leave in drive so it goes through all ten gears and uses the DFM.

Same issue here. I have taken it to the dealership multiple times and now I am going to try the legal route. No reason why a $65k truck should sound like a piece of junk.

I actually ended up trading mine in and got an Silverado RTZ .. I was not thrilled but I could not deal with the fact I paid that much money for something they did not care about .
An gm didn’t wanna do anything about it .

I agree 100%. I love my truck but this is ridiculous. I am going the route of trading mine in for a 2024 HD 6.6 gasser. No BS fuel management system. I believe it’s the DFM in the 1500 that is creating this problem.
