Hello all,

Just joined. I have a 2022 refresh Trail Boss in need of tires soon. There doesn’t seem to be much info out there on the new refresh trucks.
I believe I have the new global B ecm. I’ve read a couple threads that mention that the new refresh trucks use the gps signal in the truck for calibrating the speedometer.

Can anyone verify that this is true?
There are no speedo calibrators available yet for the refresh yet and the dealer won’t calibrate for bigger tires. Any confirmation or feedback would be much appreciated!

Thanks everyone in advance!

That’s wishful thinking that GM would do it that way. I have 35s and if I care about what speed I’m going, I’ll turn on Waze app to view the GPS speed.

Refresh trucks can’t be recalibrated currently. Someone should sue GM for locking out basic ability to adjust the speedo, as not everyone will or should stick with factory tires.

problem is...Big Brother...they dont want you modifying, changing or even driving vehicles any more.

items are being dropped into all these little back door policies that noone ever reads...it is nearly Illegal to even change your own air filter anymore...

Thanks everyone for the feedback!
I was afraid that would be my answer! This really makes me want to go to an older Chevy and not having to worry about these highly guarded ECMs and having my warranty voided for an air freshener lol

Anuswax, do you have a refresh truck?

I did see 2 threads with people saying that the refresh trucks have the ability to use the gps signal from Onstar to recalibrate the speedometer. Wishful thinking I guess unfortunately for me lol

I assume bigger tires void warranty? Even if it’s just an inch bigger or so?

They won't void the warranty, but IF you needed to make a claim related to steering or suspension they may give you a bit of push back, but they'd need to prove the bigger tires caused the problem. That being said my truck is a few weeks out and I have a set of 35's going on right away. As for the speedometer, I'm just going to open waze when driving, if I'm going 37 on Waze but the truck says 35 I'll just remember the +2 in my head.

Yes, I have a ‘23 and the speedo has been off ever since I added bigger tires.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! That makes me feel a little better. I figured steering or suspension might be an issue with warranty but it was mentioned to me at a dealer that it could void the Powertrain warranty due to making the transmission work harder and the rear diff work harder turning the bigger tires. Which is true that it does put more stress but are all dealers using this as a reason to void warranty?

Have you guys with bigger tires had any warranty work done with the big tires on it with no issue?

Towing will put far more strain on everything than just swapping out to larger tires. The issue is if you go beyond what the supporting components are made for, like lifting the truck and using the stock upper control arm which will fail if you don’t swap it out with one that is engineered for the extra height.

My dealer would laugh if I asked if my 35s would void the warranty. They modify new trucks all the time and warranty the mods since they do the work, will do whatever the customer wants.

Thanks anuswax!

How did you’re truck feel after the 35s went on?

Do you feel like it’s sluggish or slow with the big tires now?

Also, how does towing with them feel?

I have the 6.2, so although you feel some extra weight it’s not a big deal. Braking is where you feel it more, the brakes were really good with the stockers but you can feel it has less stopping power now. Brakes feel a bit weak comparatively to what I would like, but may go with a big brake kit or better pads to regain stopping power.

General feel of the truck is much better overall compared to stock, but that is also because I have -18 offset wheels. So stock the truck was a bit floaty but now it’s much more stable and corners better than my sport SUV and looks badass now.

I don’t really tow anything so can’t comment on that.

Ahhhh I gotcha! Thanks for the feedback. I’ve got the 5.3. Would you recommend staying around a 34 inch tire instead for the 5.3?

If you’re worried about the effect on performance and braking, I would go with a 34 since they will be lighter.

I’d say the biggest thing would just be when I’m pulling my Camaro to the drag strip or car show. I’ve got trailer brakes but don’t want it to feel like a turd either lol.

And need a little get up and go still when I need it.

Maybe I should trade in for the 6.2 instead ! Lol or the new 3.0 that came out for 2023. Who knows
