I’m trying to see if anyone else has experienced this exact issue on a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with the 3.0 Duramax and 10-speed.

I’m getting a very intermittent but severe event that happens under load, not during deceleration. It usually occurs while driving up a grade when the truck needs to downshift under throttle. At that moment, I get a very harsh, almost violent engagement that feels like the rear wheels or drivetrain momentarily lock or grab. Most recently, the traction control light flashed during the event.

It happens completely randomly and I have not been able to replicate it on demand. There is no check engine light and no codes stored. This is not your typical 10-speed harsh shift, it is much more aggressive and feels more like a drivetrain bind or sudden engine braking event than just a bad shift.

I originally suspected a valve body or pressure control issue, but the randomness and the traction control light have me second guessing whether it could be something like the torque converter clutch applying incorrectly, a transmission control logic issue, or something else in the driveline or control system.

Almost simultaneously, a coolant pump went bad which had to be replaced and put me into limp mode. The shifting issue seemed to get worse in limp mode. I was already taking it in for the transmission, but they told me it could be related and after replacing the pump, dismissed my transmission issue.

Before I take it back in, I wanted to see if anyone else with the 3.0 Duramax and 10-speed has experienced this exact type of event and what the cause ended up being. I am especially interested in whether it was diagnosed as a valve body issue, torque converter problem, software issue, or something else entirely, and whether the dealer was able to actually replicate and fix it.

This does not feel normal at all and borderline feels like a safety issue when it happens. Any insight is appreciated.
