I have a bad habit of searching new Youtube videos on diffent trucks and saw one tonight, from a car dealership as many of them are, advertising a new 2023 TB Custom that had the phone/audio controls on the right hand side of a wrapped steering wheel. I've never seen another Custom with this option as a new truck. They even showed the window sticker and it didn't appear to be listed anywhere as an option, indicating it was potentially a standard configuration. Anyone else see or come across this? Is there a chance they are adding this to the 2023 Custom TB moving forward, similar to the LT TB steering wheels before the refresh? Of note, every other 2023 TB Custom I have seen to date had the basic steering wheel without the right side buttons or wrap. This one was a first.

I special ordered the Safety Confidence package for my TB Custom which was $390. It included the audio controls, color DIC screen, and the pre-crash warning with auto braking. Unfortunately it didn't include leather wrapped wheel. I bought one off ebay and swapped it. They Chevy site had originally said that was supposed to be standard on 2021 trucks, but apparently not all trim levels. I've seen 2022 refresh trucks without the audio controls. I haven't seen a refresh 22-23 TB to know if they have the controls. I've only seen one 22 refresh work truck and it had the old interior and no audio controls.

After re-watching the video this morning, it looks as if they might have cut in the interior portion from another video of the LT TB. When they open the door, it doesn’t appear the steering has the controls, but then it cuts to the inside where they are present. Significant change in background wind noise from one shot to the other as well.

On the refresh trucks the Custom has the old interior. The LT has the new big screen dash.

The 2022 refresh and 2023 Custom trims(Trail Boss included) do not have the steering wheel radio controls available. That was a 2021 and 2022 LTD only option with the safety confidence package. Everything from the safety confidence package, with the exception of the steering wheel controls, is now standard equipment on the 2022 refresh and 2023. No idea why they cut the steering wheel controls out but that's the one option that should be standard on all models.

Yes, I'm aware of the standard configurations, which is why I was suprised when I saw the video of the 2023 TB Custom with the added controls and created the post. Unfortunatley, it just appears the video was editted with the interior review of an LT/LTD cut in to save some time.

Has anyone found a solution to adding audio controls on the steering wheel? I contacted three Chevy dealers in Virginia and GM technical Services with no luck. GM informed me that this option was only available during the “ manufacturing process” and there is not a retrofit kit available . So those, like myself, with Custom Trail Boss’s, might never get this seemingly simple capability.

Check this video out. Doesn’t look very difficult. Includes swapping Custom steering wheel for the LT wheel with radio controls.

That is untrue. There is a Utube video where a hands on guy bought the steering wheel and put it in himself. Lot of work but it can be done

You have to have the upgraded cluster programmed to your truck, the steering wheel and add a wire from the column to the cluster for it to work.

Does anyone know if this can be done without getting the upgraded cluster? I don’t care too much about the cluster on my custom but would really like the upgraded steering wheel with audio control.

You need to update at least to the 4" color cluster for it to work as the audio controls are tied through the cluster. When I ordered my truck it was $390 for the safety confidence package which included the audio controls, upgraded cluster and emergency braking.

I watched the video and looks like white auto and media has the clusters. I’m always trying to save some dough. Could I just get a 4” color cluster off eBay or the local upullit and add the proper steering wheel and drharness wire?

The cluster has to be programmed for your VIN. You can't just drop one in from another truck.
