hey guys….not sure how active this site is…trading my 22 ZR2 gas pig, in for a 23 diesel LT TB. It has the 2” factory lift…may need a leveling ring I’m sure…wanted to upgrade tire size and put the Goodyear Duratrack (same as my ZR2)….they did quite well in the snow and ice here, north of Toronto. If I upgraded size/width using same wheels, do I need to trim anything or what’s the max size (20” wheels) for this truck.
Second struggle I have…max trailer tow pkg….I pull bass boats and enclosed sled trailer….will this truck be good enough…or do I need to hunt out a LTZ (I despise chrome) with the max trailer pkg? The ZR2 was my first GM since 2001…..had Ford F250 diesels …so the ZR was a disappointment with towing and fuel eco (obv) lol…I expected that part however.

You will have NO problems towing that with the new diesel truck you are looking at.. The ZR2 has 33 inch tires correct? Level the front and do a fender delete and those size tires will work on your new truck with the oem wheels.. - offset wheels is where you would run into some more trouble with the fitment.

Great info. Thanks brother. Yeah ZR2 has the 33 Duratrac...the LT TB I just bought (pick it up on Monday), comes with some garbage tires with a credit ..apparently they ran out of decent tires at GM when this was built. So I will have the Duratracs on by Friday next week. Appreciate the reply ...only bad news I've heard on the new small diesel is DEF consumption...luckily I have a friend that works for the DEF supplier..so I can get it for a small discount but more importantly, large quantities. Lol
Fingers crossed this truck doesn't sadden me like the ZR2 did. haha Thx Cheers

Off the top of my head I roughly have 1500 miles and over a half tank of DEF in the truck. It was filled at the dealer. I have only towed for just over 200 of those miles, that said most people say DEF consumption is higher while towing. My poor redhot truck was swerved into so my truck is currently in the repair shop getting the front bumper fixed. I am wanting to go with cooper st max tires when my noisy duratracs are worn out. The duratracs have had great traction in the snow so far.

I got rid of the duratracs after 5K miles and went with 275/70-r18 Toyo Open Country AT3. That is the size that comes on the ZR2 and have zero issues with rubbing or anything else. No need for a leveling kit with this size.

Huh, you guys don't seem happy with the Duratracs...I have 26,000 kms on them and they aren't noisy or anything...I used to always have BFG AT...and these felt way nicer. Maybe I better reconsider the Duras...I appreciate the feedback and info. This LT TB has 20" rims...so I'd like.to max the ht and width without issues...again, thx for everyone's input. Appreciate it

30 thousand plus miles on my Duratracs now, while they are wearing very well, they seem to have become much louder, the humming noise gets louder at about 40 to 50 mph, concrete roads seem to contribute more to the problem. I may take Rascal171's advise and look at Toyos this summer!

And here I am considering new Duratracs when mine wear out, but in a slightly larger configuration. They have served me well so far, and they seem to only be "noisy" from 40 to 60 mph. But I have noisy exhaust anyways lol. I might do what rascal71 did and mimic the ZR2 size. Still a step up by an inch in diameter, but no modification required.

The ZR2 doesn’t have Duratracs. They have a GY Wrangler Territory in 275/70-18. I have that size Nitto Ridge Grapplers on my TB. I’d shy away from Duratracs as a replacement…there are far better tires out there.

Just my thoughts…

Correct…but they say Duratrac on them…apparently Goodyear made them slightly diff than the normal duratracs..so the aftermarket guys didn’t have issues. I can buy the Territory Duratracs from the dealer. I like those shoes ya have there…are they mud snow rated? I live north of Toronto …snows here 4 months a year.

I sold the Duratracs and installed Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T’s. Great tires and much quieter ride.

I think they say “Durawall” If you look at the tread pattern they are close but not identical. The lugs are closer than DuraTracs so they might contribute to a quieter ride. I will say this…the DuraTracs on my new AT4 currently ride better and are quieter than the Ridge Grapplers (with about 10k on them) that were on my Trailboss. That being said I know they will get loud eventually but for now they will stay. Will probably go Toyo Open Country AT3 as replacements.

Thanks. Ya the ZR2 is gone...and I couldn't be happier! It was NOT the truck I had expected. Anyway, appreciate all the feedback guys. cheers
