Not seeing a topic on point off hand, but the interior at night on these trucks is pretty dark. I'd love to put in some low powered LEDs in the footwells to give off a little ambient light at night (not just with the doors open, but while driving too), but anything I have seen for this seems a bit complicated and for pre-refresh models.

Odd that GM offers an after market part for this for the Colorado but not Silverado, or am I missing something?

Does anyone know if the LTZ or High County have some ambient lights in them either?

Not sure if there is a factory solution to this or if the higher trims come equipped but looks to be several options on Amazon for “car interior led strip lights” that might serve the purpose.

Hide them under the dash in the footwells and maybe under the rear seat?

I have seen the amazon options and they are bit gaudy for my tastes. No need for RGB and tons of light. My GTI had some nice single bulb LEDs that were not super noticeable, but provided some useful light when down in the footwells. I am going to keep my eyes peeled if I find something a bit more OEM looking and would likely wait until I was running wires for the GM kicker sub all at once (maybe a summer project).

Agree on the rainbow of colors and the ones people put all over their dashes. I was thinking more like this one. Available as a single color in white. Probably a little bright to leave on all the time but nice if on a switch when needed. Last pic on the “real customer photos” shows them mounted under front seats for rear lighting . Don’t know if these would work for what you’re going for though. Just an idea.

This interior light I purchased on Amazon and is removable, rechargeable, very bright, last a long time on a charge, and has several different colors

I just realized you wanted “ambient” light! My bad… I tried several options and never found a great one… but if you are looking for a great bright interior light to see rather than the dim bulbs inside the Silverado… this is the easiest and cheapest way to go

Thanks, this could be useful for different purposes. I am trying to find some simple small LED bulbs to place in the front footwells and under the front seats to light up the rear bench floor area that run off of the ambient light circuitry like the illumination around our USB ports. Nothing too bright, just enough to help you find an item you dropped on the floor or something while driving at night.

Found some on Amazon for $9.95 that plug into a 12 volt outlet. I removed the cigarette lighter plug and and used an add a circuit to the number 28 fuse in the engine compartment fuse box and body ground. This circuit appears to be controlled by ignition switch from what I can see and therefore turn on as soon as you turn ignition on. But with these being led and only drawing 2 amps shouldn’t be any big draw and because led not get hot. Hopefully, this will do the trick. The plus by adding them to the parking light circuit would mean that they would only come on when your headlights come on. See photos of the lights and the circuit taps from Amazon. Total amount invested would be about 20 bucks.
