We are On vacation for spring break with the family, next thing you know... a hard jerk, check engine light and service transmission code. I know this is typical, grateful for a warranty, but my main question and concern is once it's fixed, will I be good to go? Or will the be a recurring issue?

I love the truck, literally just got it January 31. It's a 2021 trail boss LT, with the 10 speed trans. I just don't want to keep running into issues and I'm trying to figure out what the best move is from here once it's fixed. Do I trade it in and get something else, or ride out my extended warranty and fix the issues as they come along?

Thanks for the insight

from what i have read, GM knows this is a design issue with the valve body. there is a bypass that becomes active after a shuttle valve bore becomes worn and out of round...at any given time, 3 gears are engaged to move forward...this little leak engages a fourth and THEN...BIND !

i do believe they replace the VB, but it COULD happen again.
drawing a blank on the company that has engineered a fix...

these trans were designed with ford as well, it is totally a GM valve body issue

Ahhh makes sense for sure. Had a ford with 10 speed before this and never had an issue.

Hmmm. A company that has engineered a fix? Is it some type of aftermarket modification you buy and put on?

As far as squeaky wheels I’ve heard more from lifters than transmissions. You’re smart with extended warranty.

Seems like the majority of the valve train and trans issues rear their ugly head fairly early on. I'm going on a 2000 mile trip next week in my 35K mile TB so I hope that holds true:confused:.

For sure! Hopefully just a inconvenience and I'll be good to go

Oh yeah, wasn't getting anything without one. Love the truck, just want it to keep on rolling! Will have to travel back to get it when it's ready 🤷🏻‍♂️

Poke around here, this is Allsion based...but i am hearing the same issue is the cause

Thank you for this. I will dig more into it when I get home. Looks like I could buy a kit that's easy to install in about 3 hours that solves the issues. Will definitely be worth looking into if I plan to keep it for a while. Thanks stormin

I wonder if anyone else with the 1500 has gone this route?!

There is a national recall campaign on the 10spd transmissions. I have a 6L80 and it blew up right after the warranty expired - 66,000 miles. They don't have a recall on the 6spd. It sucks. I had to buy a new trans out of a wreck and had it built with all Sonnax parts. Now it's bulletproof. From now on, all my transmissions are getting a shift-kit and cooler upgrade.

Oh man, little did I know that the clunk I had while in reverse back in Jan could be this issue. Been missing some shifts, a little clunky at times, weird lurching, all identical symptoms. Here I thought it was just a miss shift as everything seemingly was relatively fine since then (outside of these weird quirks).

They said I needed a new transmission, picking it up tomorrow!

Ugh, first 3 paint jobs on the hood. Delayed chip installs after build (just got parking assist maybe a year ago after getting deliver on Dec 2022. And now this. Not a cheap truck to have these types of issues.
