Hello Trail Boss friends!

I have ordered my 2023 LT Trail Boss (Sand Dune Metallic) at my dealership.
I'm just wondering if anyone can share the key issues with the TB that I should prepare myself for.
"None" is the answer I'm hoping for. ...But I imagine that's not very realistic. :)

Another question (un-related to the issues topic):
I ordered at the dealership on October 8th.
Do I NOT get an Order # until Chevy accepts or whatever? OR... Is there an Order # as soon as I place the order at the dealership?
And if I don't get one until Chevy accepts into their system, might anyone have a guesstimate of how long it takes before Chevy accepts the order into their system?

Thanks!

No response...
Can I assume that there are no significant issues with the latest Trail Boss trucks? :)
And does anyone know when the Order # happens?

Good point! :)
I should have explicitly asked about significant issues w/ the 2022.

Some of the issues that have popped up…
  • Hood scoop corners digging into the hood and messing up the paint, requires repaint of hood (seems to be fairly common)
  • Paint chips / defects on rocker panel, seems to affect white paint more so (doesn’t seem widespread)
  • Digital cluster has gone out for some people randomly, even while driving (not a widespread issue)
  • Vehicle won’t start (doesn’t seem widespread)
  • Infotainment screen has been reported to be laggy for some, while others haven’t seen an issue

Go back to the dealer and ask them to pull up your ordered on GM Order website. They can tell give you if it was accepted by GM. They can also tell you where is it as far production ie build week. Also, they can give you the order number.

From personal experience on ordering. Stopped at dealership mid March 2022 to order TrailBoss LT. Was told dealership had to wait until they were allocated 1 to order with the option packages I wanted. Beginning of June 2022 received a phone call from the dealership saying they were ok to order any sold units. Order was placed but never picked up by GM because they still weren't allocated a unit optioned the way I wanted. Stopped by dealership in August of 2022 for an update and still nothing. Was told because of the constraint on the different packages. September 2022 stopped in again for an update and was told at this point, its probably going to be a 2023 if in fact it gets built at all because of the heavy constraint on the 2023 TrailBoss LT models. Only 12% of estimated total by GM are being built. I decided to start keeping an eye out at different dealerships with in 50 mile radius and low and behold, exact truck I've been trying to purchase is showing in transit to a dealership and is available. Purchased that truck on October 7th when it arrived. To my surprise, I received a phone call from the dealership I was trying to order through on November 2nd telling me they were finally allocated one and able to order if I was still interested. Good luck

To best of my knowledge the 2022 refresh is same as the pending to be built 2023s. So, I agree with PennStateLarry, if you know what you want and see it in-transit or on a lot go get it while you wait for your order to be accepted. There are many constraints being reported, check GM Authority site for update, so if you can find what you want near you grab it. I am in Houston area and the 2 big Chevy dealerships have a lot listed on their website as in-transit with all engines, 3.0 diesel hardest to find. They will sale before they arrive if it is a popular model like a Trail Boss in a popular color, so grab one when you see it. I put deposit on mine a week before it was built in July and am loving it after the 1st 2 weeks. If no rush make your order and be very patient. Best of luck.

I picked one up that was due into a deanship within a week. When it arrived, test drove it and bought it that day. Funny thing was I ordered a fully loaded tahoe Z71 from another dealership in Dec 21. Tahoe was built first week in april and sat in a lot somewhere. Bought my truck at the end of september and was called shortly thereafter that the Tahoe had arrived. Told him to sell it. It was sold within two days. Still glad I didn't wait for the Tahoe.

My 22 refresh LT Trail Boss took 7 months from order to arrival. Aside from the hood paint issue mentioned above, I have a known Trailer Brake Check Light issue that prevents the trailer brakes from working. Surprisingly I did get my heated seat and steering wheel, but I'm missing my front and rear park assist. This truck is awesome BTW.

Appreciate all the replies! Thanks much!
I placed my order for the 2023 LT TB on October 8th. ...the day after the 2023 silverado build became available online.
I'm not really crystal clear on the constraint at 12%, but I would like someone to speculate on if it is likely that my order was placed in time to be one of the 12%. :)
In the meantime, I can check with my guy at the dealership to see if my order has been accepted by GM yet.

I think the big question is does your dealership have an available allocation for the model and configuration you have choosen. Yes you placed your order with the dealer but has the dealer been able to place the order with GM because of said allocation. That is where i ran into issues. I didnt understand how available units were arrriving at dealerships of the same exact vehichle that was a sold unit with my dealership. I did ask that question to the dealership i ending up purchasing through and they told me current allocations are based off of pre covid (2019) order/sales numbers of each individual model/trim level and equipment packages. Also with the heavy constraint on different packages and accessories, that is also taken into consideration. Good luck and search daily for inbound units to other dealerships that may be available for purchase.

Thanks PSL.
Kinda understand.
I did check in with my guy at the dealership and he basically said that his manager has no updates yet, but that he will let my sales guy know as soon as he knows anything at all.
I might actually stop in this next week and ask to talk to the manager.
I'm pretty bright and I think if he explains what the drill is & the GM way of things, I will catch on. :)
Right now, it just feels like I've put down a deposit...only to be strung along for who knows how long - all the while "HOPING" that my order goes through.
When I see comments on here like "search daily for inbound units to other dealerships", I feel like I'm being played by my dealership (...and maybe GM).
But I will do what you and others suggest. ...i.e.: I will keep my eye out for my truck showing up at other dealerships.
I just don't know what to think.

You aren't being played, the dealership is giving best info available. The point most are making is if you are not dealing with a high volume dealer in your area, it may take longer to get the vehicle because your dealership may not get your build allocated to them as quick as a high volume dealer. Like others on here I was trying to order a 2023 and the order wouldn't even go through, so we looked at my dealer's allocation of vehicles, and one that matched my build + a sun roof was already set to be built, so I took that one. So if your dealer can't give you an order # you are probably in the que and waiting. Unless your dealership is giving you a special deal, talk to multiple dealers and ask what they have been allocated and maybe find your truck there and reserve one that is already accepted and in line to be built.
