I have 2023 trail boss with the 6.2. I’ve been hearing a lot about engine noise & lifter failures on this engine. I know the recommended oil for this engine is 0W20. I know improving fuel economy is driving the push for these light oils but are they best protection for engine longevity? I still own a 2012 Ram with the 5.7 hemi, recommended oil for it is 5W20 which I ran until it had 30,000 mi and was out of warranty. After which I switched to 5W30 redline oil it instantly became a much quieter, smoother engine. I have ran this oil for the last 7 years it now has 75000 miles with no issues. Do you think running a heavier oil like 5W30 would benefit the longevity of the 6.2 as well? Thanks..

I have read many articles on this very subject and almost all of them say to stick with your manufacturer's recommendation. You will get better fuel economy with the 0W-20 weight, and better protection on cold starts. I am using Mobil One's Extended Performance 0W-20 oil and their Extended Performance oil filter. I change both every 5000 miles and it seems to do well for my 6.2. Whichever brand you choose, just make sure it is Dexos certified and 0W-20. Full synthetic is worth the money too.
