Black Exhaust Tips

Had the black exhaust tips installed today. They are painted flat black. I was under the impression that the black exhaust tips were painted gloss black to match the rear bumper paint which is gloss black. Are your exhaust tips flat or gloss black? Thanks.

The 1st photo is what I replaced the black exhaust tips (in the 2nd photo) to recently. As you can see, it is a flat black.

Yeah OEM GM black tips are flat black. Looks STUPID with the GLOSS black bumper. Aftermarket tips are gloss black, but they are steel and not stainless steel like the OEM tips.

Now I have a different bumper...one that is a flat black look, not shiny. So, my exhaust tips are more of a match. Originally, my truck came with the chrome exhaust tips. I changed them to the flat black tips and then to the type you see here with the different bumper.

I think flat black is the right choice for the exhaust tips. Bumper is gloss, step insert is flat, top tread of bumper is flat. Exhaust tips being flat goes with the alternating pattern.

That is a great point!! Makes sense. My truck did not come with the flat black tips, it came with the chrome tips. I changed out my tips twice.

My guess would be the gloss would tarnish from the heat over time....

I chose to keep the stainless polished look when I didnthe borla exhaust....

IMHO. The flat black tips go with the black bumper, although would have preferred gloss black. Chrome bumper, chrome tips. Just like lug nuts. Black wheel, black lug nuts.

I have aftermarket dual tips that are flat black. I like the contrast. Get some hi-temp gloss.
