I just got my TB on Saturday, and it still has 22months on the 3/36 factory warranty.
What is the best option to extend it?
Should I go through the dealer, or is there an aftermarket company?
What are people paying for it?
Thanks!

I bought mine after purchase from www.knappvehicleservicecontracts.com

It's a genuine GM Platinum plan. 8 years and/or 100,000 miles with $0 Deductible for $2,428.

I looked at it as a hedge against inflation. God only knows what things are going to cost in 8 years based on how they are now.
I went onto Knapp and I will definitely use them. Great prices and about half of what my dealer wants.

the ideal purchase, to me...has always been right before the factory warranty expires. it does suck that you have 5yr/60K mile drivetrain...but only 3/36 for all others...

you do end up paying for drivetrain coverage while the factory warranty is still in effect

Don't do this. You will pay a ton more for it. You need to get it before you pass the 2yr/24k mile mark. Prices go WAY up the next day/mile.

Also of note - if your vehicle has more than 12k miles, they require a dealer inspection before you can purchase the warranty. The guy at James Black recommended you get started on that process at least two months before the 2yr/24k mile cutoff for that process to work out.

Ok wow, I had no idea. I am actually headed to the dealer tomorrow since my infotainment screen keeps rebooting every 5 minutes. Is there a reason that particular mileage and age is so critical to Chevy?

It's not just Chevy, that's the general practice with every automaker i've dealt with. Extended warranties are cheapest until the 12k mile mark. Then they go up like $200-300 per plan. Then there's just the yearly premium increase until you hit your 2yr/24k mark where the price nearly doubles.

The inspection thing though is unique to GM as far as I know. FCA and Ford don't require it unless you are buying the used car warranty.

Knapp GMPP is pretty good, had it on my 18 LT .. They did not require an inspection at that time. When I traded it in , received at $1700 rebate for the unused portion. You have to call them directly to cancel, though. Only had 39k on truck, when traded.
I purchased just before the 3/36k warranty expired. Sometimes they offer 0% financing if you need it.

I actually just spoke to them, and the only time any inspection is required, is when you are outside the factory warranty. He told me that they dont expect Chevy to raise the price before the end of the year.

How can you even get a warranty outside of the factory warranty? GMEPP requires intact factory warranty coverage.

Genuinely interested if you have some new information.

The only thing he told me is that if you try to get the warranty once the original one is expired, the price is literally double. I dont know anything else other than that.

Have a 24 with 6k currently and didnt buy the extended warranty from dealer during the purchase. Wanted like $3,500 for the 10yr/100k. Knapp seems like a better option, just not sure the best time to purchase? Obv don't want to throw a few thousand out there yet if i don't really have to, buy also don't want to pay out the a$$ in a few years.

i understand what you are saying ( or possibly what they say)....but why pay for coverage you cannot use...at the 3yr/36K mark...you only getting coverage for electronics (which i agree may be needed on the newer rigs), the drivetrain is still factory warranty till 5yr /60K. again...total scam overall.

Thats the same boat I am in. Knapp told me that the warranty starts now, and then I would be paying for the 22 months that I still have, twice. I am probably going to wait a while and keep checking the price. I never want to own this truck, with all of the electronics, without a bumper to bumper. Just my preference.

You are only getting coverage beyond the factory warranty no matter when you buy. There's no difference in what you are buying if you buy it at the time of vehicle purchase or if you buy it on the last day of your factory warranty (with the exception of the small handful of things that GMEPP does above and beyond the factory warranty which really don't matter to me). The only difference is the price you pay. So why not take the cheaper price?

To further illustrate - If i'm buying a brand new Silverado today, and I say I want a 6 year, 90k mile B2B GMEPP plan. That would mean that i'm actually buying 3 years and 54k miles of B2B coverage, and it won't start for 3 years or 36k miles. Lets say the price for that today is $1500. OR I could decline the GMEPP coverage at time of purchase and instead buy the same 6/90 plan 2 years 364 days and 35999 miles later...so it would start the next day/mile. Only it would cost me $2800. Same coverage, much higher cost.

This is how extended warranty plans are sold now because automakers have realized that as time passes, people are less likely to spring for extended warranty coverage. So they incentivize buying it early.
