21 TrailBoss LT 6.2
I haven’t driven a 3.0 yet but I have to say I’m intrigued by it. That combined with my desire for the upgraded interior has the small gerbil in my head spinning the wheel rapidly. I absolutely love my 21 TB with the 6.2. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it and I’ve made it exactly how I want it.

That being said the thought of a new 22 (or 23) with the Duramax and new interior really makes me smile. The Duramax mileage is obviously much better and I know diesel is higher, but with Build Back Better in full swing both are too damn high. I think I’d gain a little with the Duramax but I just can’t decide.

Has anyone else considered this or am I just crazy? What’s the thoughts and opinions. I’m open.

I just got my new trail boss (glacier blue) with the 3.0 and it's freaking sweet..

I need to drive one…that’s gonna tell me a whole lot. I’m thinking if I go Duramax I may do an AT4. I really like the restyle.

I drove a 3.0, it seemed like a pretty decent engine, I wasn’t blown away by it though. The 3.0 is a full 10 mpg’s more efficient gas mileage wise. The mpg’s are good but gas is In the $4.20 range and diesel is in the $5.50 range, you will still probably get some savings out of it but not as much as in the past, you also have to add DEF fluid. The 3.0 has 277 hp and 460lb torque, 6.2 is 420hp and 460 torque, the 2.7ho engine is 348hp and 430lb torque for comparison. So horse power won’t be close to the 6.2 but torque is equal. One other perk to the 3.0 is the power train warranty is 100k miles, that’s worth a couple thousand dollars I think. Plus the diesel cool factor It’s a hard decision.

I tried the "Cool" factor with a diesel years ago and got a Titan XD when they first came out. It did all I wanted it to, but even after a delete and tune I wasn't blown away. It looked really good but that was about it. I love my 6.2 but just thinking about a change. Probably won't happen though.

I live in North Dakota and have owned several diesel vehicles and tractors over the years. Every once in a while it’ll get below -20 and you’ll get a not so wintery winter blend fuel and it’ll gell up which is a major issue. If you run straight number 1 it’ll never gell but it’s also harder on the pump/injectors and is even more expensive.

I know this thread is old but for others who have had the same thought as the OP, here's a data point: Got a quote from a dealer today, he wanted to give me $45K for my truck. '24 TB with 30K miles, recalled - no work done yet, burns oil like a '62 Plymouth, $70K new - I walked out but really liked the 3.0 he showed me.

Funny you replied…I just happened to look at the forum and there was my post. Long story short it did happen. I got my AT4 on Good Friday of 2023. Went with the LZ0 and I absolutely LOVE it. No regrets whatsoever!

I'm on my second 3.0 duramax, First was a 2020 lt, lifted it 33' tires, bilstein shocks etc, current is a 2025 TrailBoss, added 2" lift, UCA's 35" tall Falken at3w tires. This truck looks bigger, is taller, rides better, gets better mpg's. It also has a nicer interior and love the leather buckets vs the drop down center console seat in the LT. Overall totally pleased with the change. Ran the 2020 to 98000 miles before the change, its a business expense so why not drive newer and better. I have driven both Tahoe and Suburban's with the gas v8 and wasnt impressed in any way with the power delivery vs the diesel.
