Finally got my ‘21 Boss. It’s a salvage rebuild and came out great. Has the 5.3l and no active fuel management. My understanding is that these covid babies don’t have the correct chip to run that system. Fine by me. I do all short, in-town driving. Tires are GY Wrangler Duratrac LT276/65R18s. No trailering, almost never have a lot of weight in the back. I’m getting just south of 11mpg. Does that sound normal?

19-21 Customs with the 5.3 have the 6 speed trans and not the 8 speed that the LT's got. Not sure now much difference that makes. I opted for the 6.2 with the 10 speed and my average over 29K miles is just over 15mpg.

I have a 21 with the 5.3 and 10 speed transmission and I’m o my averaging around 11-13mpg. But I’ve only had the truck for a few weeks so I’m hoping that will change

Your fuel consumption sounds about right for your setup and driving style. I have done 16mpg over 35K miles and I do about 50/50 city / hwy driving with a 5.3 and 10spd.

dont be fooled by the NO AFM, you still have the same junk valvetrain as the rest. yours just doesnt have control to the phaser to turn off oil flow

Have a 2020 Custom TB with a 5.3-6 speed transmission. Bought it in April 2024. I was getting 16 mpg until the winter hit.

Now it's down to 14-15 mpg. All town driving. I chalk it up to winter blend gas...and the new exhaust I put on 4 months ago.

View attachment 19691You may still be having fun with it, it'll probably go up some. You can learn how to increase it by driving it more, easing up on the gas just slightly will sometimes cause it to upshift and that will increase it. I've found that sometimes getting up to speed a little quicker and then easing off will help it a little bit instead of gradually getting up to speed where the mpg's will stay down longer. I'll pick up all the speed I can going down hills so I can coast up the next one a little longer. Basically it boils down to how much fun you want to have with it. Enjoy!

Congrats on your trading a chevy for your Great NEW Toyota! Best that you don't hang around here anyway, if all you can do is LIE about GM trucks. Please note that on the strength of TRUCK SALES GM sold more vehicles than Toyota in recent years, once again taking the place of the world's largest automaker.

Millions and millions of GM trucks, and Cadillac cars, have the AFM or DFM technology. The Trip 2 odometer in my '21 TB indicates 20.2 MPG average since I bought the truck new. AFM and DFM work. Only a very small percentage of trucks are junk like yours. Perhaps it is in how you don't maintain it properly.

Good to see you leave.
