I guess I should know the answer, just making small talk and being safe.

If I weld the straight pipe in place of the muffler, I’m guessing I should disconnect the battery negative terminal?
Any thing that needs to be reset after reconnecting?

It’s always a good idea to unhook the battery. Is it necessary? I’m sure it could be argued about for days.

Any vehicle with computerized electronics absolutely disconnect the battery before using an electric welder. Place your ground clamp as close to what you're welding as possible too. Electrons are lazy and will find the easiest path to ground, even if that is through a control module that is only designed for low volts/amps. 🤙

agreed, RUBBER mounts all the way ...then manifold right next to ground cables.
always put your welders ground on the tail pipe opening.

ANY REASON WHY YOU DONT USE THE PROVIDED CLAMPS ??? Makes changes much easier
