I have recently installed the refresh DFM delete from Range. Looking for a better sound from my truck. I've had quite a few trucks, but have never messed with the exhaust. I think this one should sound as good as it looks. '23 Custom Trail Boss. Running 34" Cooper Rugged Trek's on stock wheels, no lift or trimming. I've done the ditch lights, led all around, and some other stuff. Love this truck.

Getting to the point, sorry. I am leaning toward the Borla Atak. Watched a YouTube video where a guy had one installed and gave a part #. I guess these are tuned by displacement. The part # he used was 400823, for the 5.3 truck. It was an earlier model year, and was wondering if anyone has put this on their truck, and what they think of it. Is this the right part # for my application? Also, planning to get rid of the flapper valve for sure, don't know about the resonators. Would it be advisable to also source some stainless 3" pipe, since I don't want to put something on my truck that is just going to rot and need to be revisited. I'm new to this.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Respectfully,

Randy

I have a 19 Custom with 5.3. I did a muffler delete and locked open the flapper. Cold start is aggressive and deep(sounds good). Driving has a nice throaty rumble and aggressive sound. I went the $100 delete pipe route first before spending 1K plus.

The Borla is around $250 online. Then pay the local muffler shop to put it in. Not so much worried about the cost difference. Might make a difference getting an inspection sticker around here. Not sure.

my area doesn't require smog or other certs !

I believe Tommysf13 was referring to the cat back option. Which cost over $1k. I know you have the 5.3 but there is some good info on a vote threadfor my 6.2 at below link that has a lot of owners chiming in. Oh I went with the Borla cat back S-Type

I was very pleased with the AFE Apollo GT muffler but after covering up the resonators I really love it now. Nothing radical, but a good healthy throaty sound!
