I have a 2022 Silverado Trail Boss which I just got back after 68 days out of service due to a failed valve body. I currently have a Lemon Law case filed and if I win the buyback from GM, I will need to make a decision. I will either trust GM replaced the faulty valve body with a "newly designed" one that will not fail in the future and keep my TB or accept the buyback and look to purchase a 2023 or newer Colorado ZR2??? It is just that I love the feel of the V8 and the fact I have done so much aftermarket work on my TB and to accept the buyback will just throw all that hard work and value away. However, with the constant issues that keep arising with the 10 speed automatic, it may just be worth it to accept a buyback from GM??? I have not found much negative info about the 8 speed automatic transmissions having any issues, so I may consider the Colorado ZR2. I just don't know because it is only a 2.7L turbo 4 so way less of a power "feel" than the V8 I am so used to for so long. I think the last time I had a vehicle with a 4 cylinder was back in 1994 when I bought a Ford Ranger XLT. Any opinions are welcome. Please help me out! Thanks!

The 8 speed has been a bigger piece of junk than the 10 speed ever has. They redesigned it to supposedly fix all the issues. There's been TONS of lawsuits over the 8 speed transmissions in the Silverados. The 8 speed in the Colorado is the revised version of the original 8 speed that was in the Silverados.

No shit? Damn, thanks for the information! I did know there were lawsuits as you mentioned in the past. Do you know if this "revised" version 8 speed has been having any issues?

I haven't heard any issues, but they aren't using the 8 speeds anymore with V8s. They are only mated to the turbo 4 cylinders in the Silverados and Colorados.

The 8 speed in my older Silverado work truck left me on the side of the road twice while I had it. When I was shopping for a silverado I made sure to get one with a 10speed. I hope that they fixed those issues.

Thanks, I have been reading GM "supposedly" fixed the 8 speed transmission problem for years after 2019. I see there is a lawsuit still open. I have a '22 Silverado Trail Boss with the 10 speed and was out of service waiting for a valve body replacement. I was asking everyone because I was at least hoping GM fixed the 8 speed trannies. I have been looking at a 2023 or newer Colorado ZR2 using the 8 speed in its 2.7L. I juts really wish GM would put out trannies that will not fail because of a garbage design. Thanks everyone.

Buy an extended warranty from Knapp to protect yourself and just keep your fingers crossed. All platforms have their issues, very hard to say which ones are better than others.

If you do end up buying the Colorado, JB4 Tuners has a device that will crank up the turbo and fuel pressure and increase horsepower to the tires by as much as 85 horsepower. It doesn't require unlocking the ECM, and it leaves no trace if you need to remove it for warranty work. I imagine that would make it quicker than any 5.3 - powered 1500 out there, being lighter. Would be interesting to see how it does against the 6.2.

That being said, I haven't heard of any issues with the 10-speed, but I have heard of plenty over the years with the 8-speed. The 10-speed was co-developed between GM and Ford, so I doubt there was any shortage of research or resources that went into the development of that transmission.
