I’m at 10k miles now. Still seems if I accelerate hard, less than or wot can hear a brief rattling/pinging that then goes away. Using 93, trying different stations now, Running Amsoil pi every couple thousand miles, going to start using the Amsoil upper lubrication every fill up which they recommend. Using 0/20 Amsoil signature series. Starting to think these high compression engines would do better with a pro tune over a factory tune. Using a pulsar lt since around 1000miles. Maybe it’s the injectors dumping fuel I’m hearing. I don’t know. Maybe someone with a 6.2 can romp on it and let me know. If I go wot it usually dosent do it as much but anything less than wide open throttle you can hear it. It’s like it doesn’t downshift enough and puts to much load on the engine. Almost like in a manual car not being in the right gear. Would a colder plug help this type of engine?

Do you have DFM or AFM deactivated with your Pulsar LT? If not, maybe it's cylinder deactivation trying to do its thing very briefly before reactivating again. Mine was very weird in that regard before I finally deactivated it in my 6.2. I do have an aftermarket tune on mine, and no pinging. It's just a pre-loaded tune from Superchips, though. It does run a little rich when cold, at least that is how the exhaust smells. But it runs very well now. Just a little worse gas mileage is all without DFM activated.

My Dfm is disabled and has been. I feel like you really need to tune in to the noise the engine is making. The average person would not notice/hear/ or care about it. It almost sounds like it’s pinging up a storm then corrects itself. Feels like a wrong gear under load situation or maybe a lean/rich air to fuel ratio situation. Never have been a fan of factory tunes after my Subaru spun a rod bearing at 8k miles fully stock, after that a pro tune on a mustang dyno showed gains and engine safety. Care to share more about your tune ? Is it a conservative type of tune?

Mine is a pre-loaded tune from Superchips, not a fancy custom tune or anything like that. But their programmer comes pre-loaded with tunes for performance, economy, 87 octane, and towing. I am running the performance tune. From what I understand, they just advance spark with the performance tune and you just have to run 91 or better octane. They say that running an aftermarket air intake and cat-back exhaust helps compliment the tune very nicely. So obviously the tune appreciates more air. They just need to you to remove your ECM and send it in so they can unlock it, then they overnight it back to you. I hope that helps!

Hi..

Any updates with this engine noise?

I have 19 TB 5.3 102k miles. Def. Having this noise exactly as you describe it

Thanks. Appreciate it. I run 91 fuel

My 6.2L rattles noticeably on startup… that’s with premium synthetic motor oil and 94 octane ethanol-free gasoline… This is normal noise according to GM.

I have a 22 with 6.2l and have a similar noise. If hit the throttle aggressively, it makes a pinging/rattling noise. It sounds like a rattle in the cat converter to me but I could never isolate it. Dealership says it’s normal, same with the ticking and rough idle I have had since buying it. They claim it’s all normal. Hell, we had an 08 dodge caravan with 510,000 miles that was smoother running.
