Remove Trailer Brake Controller

Odd question, but if you remove the factory trailer brake controller will you get a CEL or other message on the dash? We have a couple single cab short bed work trucks and they don't ever tow as they're used by salesmen. I was going to remove the factory trailer brake controller and replace it with a 12 volt cigarette lighter type 12v outlet for a dash camera or put a switch there for some work lights for when they're at a job site. Just curious if it would cause any issues if I just unplugged the factory controller and removed it. I know you can add one to the factory wiring and not have to do anything as the harness and pigtails are supplied in the trucks that don't come with one so I wouldn't think it would do anything but wanted to check before I just pulled it out.
