My grandpa was a hard rock gold miner in the 30's. In 1958 he built a cabin in the shadow of the Sierra Buttes that is truly a gem... A little "Granite Rash" is a small price to pay to be able to chase the whispers of his memory around gold country with my son. Time well spent. (And now I have a reason to fab up some rocker knockers!;))

Long post... Hopefully worth your time!

In 2022 my aunt gathered all my grandpa's writings and put them together into a self published book. In his mid 80's he had decided to take a writing class at the local community college and this autobiography is one of his assignments.

This summers gold country adventure with my son was to Alleghany CA, along with our normal visit to Sierra City and the Lakes Basin area, to see the mining town where my grandparents met. It was a good trip and the Trail Boss got us everywhere we wanted to go...

Continued from above...
The last pic is of the Sierra Buttes at sunset. The highest peak is the fire lookout and just to left and below you can see the outline in the rock formation of the California State Bear. Fish were caught...trails were bossed...fun was had.

That is a great read. Thank you for posting it. Steamers, Horses, and a Model A, It wasn't that long ago.
