Stock Round assist steps inquiry

I am thinking about getting a pair of the stock 4 inch round assist steps for my truck. I noticed that they are hollow and don't have end caps. I live in the snow belt so I am worried about the snow and salt getting in them leading to rusting them out. Also any rodent issues making nests in them or other issues happening with them? Does this happen and how to combat?

I looked on Amazon and the 3 inch ones claimed to not work on a 2026, but worked on a 2025. GM claims compatability so I took a chance and ordered them. Fit like a glove. 3" and 4" have rounded end caps. I'm in AZ.
