Cold started my truck this morning and decided since we had some cold weather to make sure that no mice were building any new nests. Popped open the hood and heard some unusual tapping. Not rhythmic but rather erratic tapping. I decided to drive it a little and see if the noise goes away. It did. I checked it out after I got to the hardware store. Popped the hood and it was idling normal again. Just wondering if anyone has heard this before and is it normal? Truck only has 1800 miles on it.

My truck "clicks" sometimes as it warms up, just chalked it up to metal expanding. Never been an issue. I also have some body panels that squeak when the outside temps are below freezing, goes away after the engine bay warms up.

I’ve got the same thing on my 2020 LT Trail Boss. Just under 50k miles and no issues, but there’s always been some odd noises when cold starting. Talked to the dealership when I first purchased it and was told these new vehicles do a lot of “self checks” on solenoids and whatnot. Possible cause of the clicking.

Yeah, I keep my truck in the garage. Hardly ever leave it out. Temp in garage was probably in the 50’s.

have you ever heard the exhaust popping with temp changes ? very common issue...

that said, these trucks are know for a tapping or almost spark knock like sound from the fuel system as well

Mine makes some erratic tapping noises too… no codes or anything though
When I heard it, it was during a cold start and then it went a way after driving it a few miles. Just wondering if this is normal.

could be high pressure fuel system noise...or broken exhaust manifold stud.

at idle it will have a tap or tick, and if you let it warm...they can seal up some and quiet down.
