How many are aware of a thrust washer problem with the LZ0 engine? I found out yesterday talking with a friend in MI who works for GM service engineer.

Just saw this last weekend...add it to the list ...of problems i already mentioned . ...this isnt a good deal for chevy or us...why the fuck qc has gone away is beyond me...these trucks already cost a fortune . ..thrust bearings now...jesus how long have they been making and installing those ...over 100yrs...
 
U see the demon works video were he shows how to check play on thrust bearing...looks like it takes 2mins once trucks on alift up in the air...
 
Crankshaft play max spec is 0.0124" which is less than 1/64" (not a heck of a lot of movement/play).

Yup. Don't need a dial gauge to test that one. I want to check mine initially as just a baseline, but I will wait until the temps leave single digits and/or its not snowing and/or the wind calms down....so, basically sometime in April ;)

Well just jacked the truck up and checked for movement...at alittle over 10k...no movement....tight is right...took alot of weight off my mind 4 now....getting ready 2 send off the 10k oil change...now and might do a transmission change and transfer and rear oil change out 2 amsoil...dont know about that yet....
 
So a bit of an up date on this...looks like workers mistake instead of putting in both thrust washers...alot have only one and destroyed a bunch of engines so not a design flaw or parts failure so far

I'm hopeful this is the case but just as was said in the video this was 1 engine so a sample size of 1 (n=1) but holy sh**! It is amazing that this motor was only throwing codes and still running at 7500mi with a single thrust bearing! Even Given this one case, it could be ~possible then for motors to have been built missing both thrust bearings - maybe those are the ones that fail in the first few thousand miles.

I plan to do the crankshaft end-play test on mine today.
 
Just did the end-play test. Took less than 5 minutes. I cannot detect ANY movement, so that must mean that I have both bearings anyway (phew!).

The cover is snapped on and held in place by 3 prongs, it just takes a small screwdriver to pry it out. "Pry" is too strong of a word really. Then a bigger screwdriver can be used to test foreward/backward movement.
