I am looking for a set of good AT tires for the winter months. Was going to get the Falken at4w but the size I wanted is out of stock everywhere. So now I am leaning toward the Toyo AT3 tires in probably 285/70/18 size.

How does everyone like the Toyo AT3 in the winter? Snow, ice and cold traction?

i used them as my choice tire since 2011. i have had zero complaints...the misses has never commented any negatives....all in the midwest and upper north (Wisconsin / Minnesota)

the TB runs the Toyo RT, just because i want something slightly more aggressive in appearance

Mine have been great in snow. No issues or complaints👍

I have Mickey Thompson Baja Boss 275/70/r18s and they rule in the snow. They are 3 peak certified so I don't need to ever carry chains and they grip so well with all of the siping and tread depth. They Toyo AT3 look very similar with the exception that the tread does not extend quite as far into the sidewalls. I did go back and forth between the 285 and 275 width and ended up going with 275 because it focuses the weight of the vehicle onto the road a little better and narrower tires are supposedly slightly better in deep stuff.

Thanks everyone.

My current 35" BFG KO2 tires have roughly a little over half tread and are losing some of there wet traction and I am worried how they will be in the snow.

I think I am going to to get the 285/70/18 Toyo AT3. They will be about .75" shorter and an inch narrower than my current BFG's. And 10# lighter. This should be better for winter driving. And they will be mounted on 18x9 rims with +18 offset.

I'm running Toyo OC AT3's on my current 4Runner (after several sets of BFG AT KOs on previous vehicles). The Toyos are very very good in both deep and packed snowed in my experience. I'm curious to see how the Goodyear Terr MTs do in the snow..... we'll get our first test tomorrow on the wife's TB.

I’ll throw a vote for the General Grabber AT X out there. One of the most overlooked underated AT tires out there with excellent snow and hard pack grip. Also studable if that’s an option. Super quiet on road and easy on pocketbook.

I had those a year ago and they were louder than I like and couldn't balance them.

I got the LT285/70/18 Toyo AT3 mounted today on Vision Turbine 18x9 +18 rims. I really like the looks of the Toyos and the wheels will do for a winter set. Not bad for around $1600 total for everything. Will mount them up maybe this weekend.

I looked at your first picture and didn't realize that they weren't mounted yet..... I feel much better now that I scrolled down :). I thought you might have been running 8" spacers there for a second..

LOL

It was a teaser picture until I can mount them. Plus to show what a machined wheel looks like on a trailboss since everyone is running black wheels.
