I recently purchased a 2024 Trail Boss and the sunroof is opening by itself. It has been to the dealership 4 times and has been there more than home. GM has acknowledge the problem but I am still trying to get it repaired or Lemon Lawed. To date it is not fixed and at the dealership.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I picked up my 2024 Trail Boss in July and the sunroof opened randomly on the drive home. I mentioned it to the dealership and they said there is no reported issues about this. The other day I had my truck started with the remote and when I hopped in and hit the start button the roof opened randomly again. Gonna take it back, according to my research other people that have had the same issue had the roof console/roof control module replaced as that was the issue.

Update: The sunroof continually opened and they replaced the motor and an unknown component and it did not fix the problem. While driving it back to the dealership for the 5th or 6th time, a warning light came on displaying hold wheel and the truck made an abrupt lane change with no one around me. I left it at the dealership and told GM I was done and seeking legal counsel. II just received a letter from GM and that are buying it back.

Per the dealership, the sunroof is a known problem with no current fix.

I have a 2024 trail boss, same issue for me. Its happened to me about 10 times now. I was literally searching the web to see if this is a known problem and came across this thread..

I phoned my dealer and they said they've only heard of one other person with this issue and it happens to them while driving through a underpass/bridge. Funny enough, that is the same situation for me but also happens when I back into my garage. Regardless, it doesn't happen every time. I purchased my trail boss mid July 2024.

I told the dealer Id bring it in for looking at when I schedule my first oil change. The service coordinator I spoke to at least took my name and was going to report it to the service manager for further investigation.

It's kind of annoying to be honest since I could care less for a sunroof, but since the truck came with it I thought, what the hell, I work hard and deserve nice things...lol

Hope they figure it out.

Hi. Got 2024 trail boss with same issue. Any one got fix his?? Dealership order some parts for my car.

Well it’s funny this post popped up. I just had a Deja vu moment in my driveway and couldn’t figure out if I bumped the button or what , but sunroof randomly opened up while putting the truck in park. I thought I was losing my mind. So thanks for the post.

When I back in my garage and hit park the same thing happens. Not every time, but often enough....

Good luck!

I don’t have a trail boss but my 2024 Silverado RST Z71 does this very frequently. The way I’ve been able to reproduce is

1. Start the truck with remote start
2. Let it warm up for 3-4 minutes
3. Enter the truck, hit break, and start button.

@CostaMesa - can you share more of what parts they replaced and why they purchased it from you instead of replacing?

Edit: sorry, just reread and saw you mentioned legal counsel and the parts. Thanks!

Mine is triggered by headlights. It opens when they turn automatically or when I play manual with the light switch. Not every time but very often. I'm waiting for an appointment with they dealer they ordered a new controller.

They replaced my control panel and it is still opening. My opens too when the lights turn on. (backing in the garage or driving through a underpass. )

New vehicles man. This is the first vehicle I've had in a while without a sunroof and I was a bit unsure how I would feel long term. Rarely used it in previous vehicles so I didn't make it a must-have item; hearing this makes me feel a bit better about it. Not trying to detract from yall's issue. Its a shame that you just can't trust traditional feature on newer models. Hope they make it right for everyone.

I drove into my local car wash last week and the sunroof opened. I was able to close it quick enough before the water started spraying me, So I messaged my dealer to say this is enough.

They mentioned some higher up from GM contacted/emailed them recently about the sunroofs opening randomly. Basically they said to stop replacing parts because they don't know why its doing that and are waiting for further instructions from engineering. Something about a bad "computer chip" and they have no way of determining which are good and which are not..... The service rep instructed me to take out the fuse so it would stop opening, to which I have done. Now my sunroof doesn't work at all, but at least it wont open whenever it feels like it. Fuse is F54 on the passenger side.

My tail gate also started opening at random while it was at the dealer getting an oil change, so they replaced the control panel on the outside as they found corrosion. Problem is the new panel isn't sitting that tight to the tailgate. Every time I wash it, more water will go inside. Or at least that is what i think.

The front display also froze and stopped working the entire way home from work not long ago. (No signal lights, speedo etc...)

Pretty sure at this point, I'll be getting rid of this truck once the warranty is up and going back to a F150.
