I bought my 2021 TB used which came with the trailer app feature activated. Had issues with the right blinker light working on truck but not trailer. Checked fuses but didnt fix the problem. So, I called Carmax and they had me take it into the nearest dealership. The dealership said they replaced a fuse and my trailer app now only does light test. I reset to factory and still the trailer light test only.

Had my VIN referenced and it does say I have the feature included in the VIN.

I am an IT professional that programmed motorola radios. I have a feeling the dealership deactivated my feature by turning off or clicking a tick mark in the infotainment setup software.

When I bought the truck and before I took it to the dealership, when I hooked up one of my trailers I was able to build a profile for the trailer. Now all I get is a light test for all my trailers. I have two utility trailers, one car hauler, & a travel trailer.

I heard this might be an onstar feature but when i asked them they just confirmed my truck has the feature included. Everyone seemed clueless on what is wrong with the app. I connected the system to wifi and allow it to update but still no fix for trailer app.

Anyone had the same issue before? Is there a way to access the system? Any OEM or aftermarket software? I would love to activate every feature on my infotainment system.

Thanks.

your model year, MAY not have the correct software or CHIP necessary. the VIN may show it, but the window sticker may have overwrote the deletion due to chip availability

My truck should have the correct chip and the VIN and Sticker shows it has the app. I believe the dealership played stupid and deactivated my app. I bought it in 2022, and it is a 2021. I did say I was an IT that programs motorola radios for first responders, correct? This has nothing to do with the chip. It has to do with the dealership being shady. Because people like you, dealerships get away with stealing features from people.

I was hoping to find a hacker on here who has the software hack to activate the feature.

PEOPLE LIKE ME ???? I know how to
1. look through the settings to see if "I" made the error
2. Visit my dealer, and pressure them to show me with the tech what is not there or can be seen.

dont assume that because I gave you an alternative path, that i am that passive...for what its worth, i have had to inform TECHS like you from the sources of communications, that most of those devices can do what you say. We regularly run several hundred comm units on a site...the TECHS we receive very rarely get it correct without multiple visits.

i know plenty of technicians in the auto industry, NONE of which have ever made a comment nor complained that their dealer leads have ever requested they do such things...it can happen inadvertently, but more likely is user error

curious to hear your fix, if it is ever found

I’ve been frustrated with the dealership experience, as I know this feature was working before I brought the truck in, and now it's only showing the light test option. I’m confident the issue isn’t on my end since I’ve already done a factory reset and even updated the system over Wi-Fi. I also pressured them to fix it but they played stupid. I took it to two different dealerships.

I believe the dealership intentionally deactivated the feature or didn’t fully understand how to fix it, but either way, I’m stuck without the full functionality I had. I’m still trying to find out if there’s any aftermarket or OEM software that would allow me to access these features or restore them.

Obviously you don't know because you ASSUMED I had the wrong chip which is not an alternative path to my OP. Also, you stated you had features deactivated on your comm units because of ignorant programmers. I rest my case.

I did my research before posting this on here. Also, I have come across several shady mechanics who would do such things. People are no longer trust worthy. Idiocracy, is becoming more realistic.

Maybe someone else has suggestions for tools or steps I might have overlooked, I’d appreciate it. I’ll keep everyone posted if I manage to fix it.

Last resort is take it to another dealership further away.

Thanks again for your input but please go troll someone else.

so how about this,
NEVER ASSUMED anything, said some WINDOW stickers have mentioned options deleted...
also never said deactivated...THEY DIDNT know to program the function i know they had...

Now, when you say trailer app, are you speaking of the 360 camera ? or something else ? it can still be a software issue, as it is an APP ??? or is it a hard feature, not correctly selected.

willing to help, you kind of went of the rails slightly from a suggestion you didnt like

In-Vehicle Trailer App
For those who have a 2021 TB 4x4 Crew Cab:
These are the features if you have the factory tow package.

In your case, I would call GM customer service. They watch these boards as well....

Is this issue present with a trailer ATTACHED ? I want to say my 23 Denali doesn't display that info or option until the trailer is attached.

I only do the large 5th wheel, but installed GM sensors to watch the TPS.

I called onstar who transfered me to a tech who told me to take it to the nearest dealership with trailer. Onstar and tech did say my truck should have it.

I found out they can't program remotely, but can do a light test remotely if trailer was attached.

I am really suprised they don't have a dummy load trailer tester. I offered to build one for them. Since this is for all trailers.
I live in a remote location where the nearest dealership is 55 miles one way.

That is over 1hr drive away. Usually when I am in that area it is always after hours or passing through and don't have time to stop. When I mentioned tick marks on the program, they didn't steer me the opposite direction.

They concluded features on the infotainment center are, in fact, tick marks in a program but they don't have access to that. As OnStar, they have their own program separate from the infotainment center which is about the same, tick marks on a screen for each feature included. The OnStar tech stated vehicle features like the Trailer App is a dealership added feature and only they are the ones to help with the issue.

Mobile app versus infotainment center In-Vehicle Trailering App:
MyChevrolet App image of Advance Trailer Settings is posted.

My travel trailer is a OneControl montioring services but my Chevy requires an In-Command monitoring services. I am wondering if that is part of the profile builder. Yet I don't see trailer profiles in my mobile app.

I thought maybe the previous owner had taken up the internal space for trailer profiles but setting to factory would have deleted them. Creating my own profile, seems to deactivate the feature yet the mobile app gives me some features more than the display on truck.

Image of display with trailer app on screen bottom right. When i depress, it goes directly to light test but before it came up like the mobile app with options. When I connect trailer I get nothing. No, option for selecting profile, setting up profile, and I have to manually set brake controller settings and switch to tow mode. The brake controller lights up when trailer is connected so it sees the trailer but the infotainment does not.

I also thought maybe the trailer has to be a smart trailer but then i remembered when I connected a 4 plug carson utility trailer the option to setup profile for it was given and I was able to read through the checklist for connecting trailer.

This was before taking it in for trailer blinker issues and buying my travel trailer. I have been trying to take the truck and trailer into the dealership for the past two years but have not been able to find the time. Guess I have to call in sick and go take my sick truck in for a check up.

I'll keep posted if I find fix.
