Weak upper control arms

@Aztb did you have a lift or level kit on your truck? What modifications had been done?
I bought it like this from the chevy dealership , I have no knowledge of what was put on , im just learning that the service manager says who ever installed the lift did it wrong and didn’t change the upper control arms and they said it has spacers and it may be the wrong angle on the ball joints , not sure yet what spacers was used , i am still finding out the details As of now chevy doesn’t want to help with costs to make it correct , I'm still trying to talk to them this is ridiculous

I would think the dealer should eat the cost of repair. They should have noticed the truck was lifted and checked the control arms.

That sucks and the dealership owns the repair. They inspected it. I guess another reason I went with BDS. Lifetime warranty on everything. I off road in comfort knowing all angles are correct.

Believe it is overdue for a recall on the trail boss for the flimsy upper control arms. This was the third one that I saw this month. Yes, the stock UCA is not a high quality arm. One of the first items I replaces.

I just yesterday visited our local off-road 4x4 shop to ask for a quote to level my TB. Within minutes he told me he would need to also replace the UCA's due to any future off road activity. I have been discussing with others including my best friend who had his Silverado done and this was never previously mentioned. I am glad that I Googled it, which led me here and other websites where this is in fact the conversation. His quote was just over $1,100 for 1 1/2" or 2" leveler kit and two RC forged control arms. https://www.roughcountry.com/produc...m_content=&utm_term=||c||fit_first_29501RED-b

Is that a fair cost at $1,200 ? I am guessing from that one photo of the red TB at the side of the road disabled, it is great insurance to have correct ball joint angles if level or lifted. I think I just answered my own question.

The better question is; Which leveler kit should I use if I want laser level across, 1 1/2" or 2" or more?
Thank you, PyrateRick

lots of factors go into a good suspension...height is an added benefit. travel is what gains you the most in performance and ride quality...hitting limit stops (internal or external) is what causes harsh rides.

what are you OFFROAD plans ? YOU have a lot of great options around you, most not heavily advertised.

watch those vids in order, lots of good info....dont mind the brand of the Cognito vid (although quality stuff)...LISTEN to what is said about travel,, height angles and such....it is best to learn before, than to pay after

Welcome!

In the bay area an “off road” shop quoted $1000 for labor alone, plus 240 for alignment. I thought that was excessive so I ended up doing the arms and leveling kits myself and had a tire shop align it for $150. It’s a pretty straightforward job, should only take 2-3hrs, so maybe $600max in labor plus parts and alignment. $1200 for parts, labor, and alignment may be fair although I’m sure it could be had for cheaper.
