Scam marketing or real? The dealership from which I purchased my 21 TB four years ago called me for the first time. They left a message stating OnStar had contacted them to say my vehicle was reporting a "low oil light" and to call them back to resolve the issue. First of all I have only been back to that dealership once since the purchase and that was immediately after the purchase. Second, I canceled OnStar shortly after the free promotional period. I have no intention of calling the dealership back. I did check my oil which was changed four weeks ago and the level is perfect. I have no problem indicators in the driver information system.

Has anyone else had this call? To me it is an attempt at "fear marketing" through technology. It pisses me off that even though I canceled OnStar over three years ago they are still monitoring me and my vehicle for thier own use. I know the moitoring has been continious because I still get limited reports from them trying to get me to subscribe again. Now GM, the owner of OnStar has taken things as far as making phone calls to get me to react to fake OnStar reports. To me, I have another one finger salute for GM! If anyone else has had this happen I would like to hear about it. If it is real I will eat my words an put the tin foil hat away!

Yep...they are watching :ROFLMAO: . I will give GM the benefit of the doubt though, that they are trying to look out for their customers best interests, and maybe drum up a little business. I put a rodent repeller under my hood that is basically flashing LED lights and is connected to the battery. Solved my rat problem but last winter I didn't drive the truck much (had a CVA but that's another story) and the battery got weak when I didn't run it for almost a month. Always started and no warning lights. I put a charger on it and it came right back but a week or so later I started getting emails from on-star to take the truck immediately to the closest service center for evaluation (there wasn't an "or else!" attached but it sure felt that way). Haven't had any on-star subscription for the truck with GM since it expired in 2020. None of this explains your errant low oil light, unless the ignition was left on while the oil was changed and the ECM noted it when the level was low and relayed to on-star. Maybe scanning for codes while the oil drains?🤷‍♂️

I wondered the same thing about it sensing something during the oil change even though the ignition was off. Since I am not a subscriber maybe they send alerts to the dealer instead of me. But strangely I still get low tire pressure texts as soon as I air down which I do often. The bottom line is still GM is collecting any and all data they have a use for.

They probably want you to call them back so they can try to sell you a new truck, under the guise of an oil light.

Last week I received an email from my dealer indicating it was time to change oil/filter. The oil life was at 25%. I just deleted the email since I change my own oil/filter.
