I have heard that a trail boss will need a leveling kit and I have heard that it doesn’t. I’m not sure if it’s my eyes playing with me but I’m curious does the factory 2 in lift need to be leveled?

this has a 1.75" Level only. this was still stock Ranchos with the RL 1.75 level and RL upper arms.
like most, EVERY TRUCK VARIES SLIGHTLY

This is stock with the 1.5 rough country level kit. You can tell the difference in looks ( no rake) but not in the drive of the vehicle, still drives just like when I bought it.

Poppy...Remember, the factory 2" is just that.. a 2" LIFT, GM raise both ends, and the truck has a rake designed into to accommodate hauling.

if it were designed for offroad driving at speeds, the tail would be slight lower for better handling and tracking

The rake does seem to vary. I started a thread on it. My '26 LTTB Duramax has only ~.5" rake but I have seen other TBs that are visually much more (1.5" plus). A 1" level would be about all I would want without a reverse-rake look.

Mine too. Thankfully… I know the rake serves a purpose but am glad my TB LT rake is not prominent.

Hmm...I noticed you also have the 3.0 duramax (?). I wonder if heavier springs are put in with the diesels? I suppose it could also be that the V8s are (much) heavier than the 3.0, but I almost think it the other way around. If I believe the numbers in a quick search, they are nearly the same (450-500 lbs).

I measured the difference last night.
Rear wheel well is 3/4” higher than front wheel well.

For my setup, this is what I went with because of the lift, tire size, etc.

Target Rake (Confirmed for Your Setup)
Goal: 1.25–1.5 inches of rake
Sweet spot: ~1.4 inches
This works best with:
305/70R18 (~34.8")
~5.3L weight bias up front
Caster: +5.5°
Camber: –0.2°
Toe: +0.10° total toe-in
Mixed street / off-road use
📏 What Your Current Setup Usually Nets
On a Trail Boss with:
5" rear block
Deaver mini pack (replaces overload, adds lift + rate)
Typical rear lift outcome:
Block: ~5.0"
Deaver mini pack: ~1.0–1.25" (net, once settled)
Total rear lift: ~6.0–6.25 inches
Most trucks with a 4–6" front lift end up:
Front: ~5.0–5.5"
Rear: ~6.0–6.25"
➡️ That lands you right around 1.25–1.5" of rake once the mini pack settles.
So on paper, you’re already in the ideal window.
