Howdie all, maybe someone can answer this: I want to upgrade my stock battery (730 cca AGM) with a 950 cca AGM such as the ACDelco and others. Need the extra juice for winter snowplow operation and sometimes for a portable hitch mounted winch. My concern is that the stock truck electronics and/or wiring is not exactly compatible. Will it throw codes? Alternator charging issues? Thanks in advance. 2024 1500 LT Trail Boss 5.3L.
) Think of Amps as gallons per minute in water flow. Your combined needs will drain the tank and the Alt will refill the tank. You run into trouble when your Alt can't refill system demand fast enough, i.e. lots of lights, radios, winches, compressors, snowplows etc... A higher Amp battery gives you more time before the tank runs dry but it's also important to match the Alt output to the demands of the devices you have installed. For the 5.3 a 170 amp and a 220 amp alternators were offered. RPO code KW5 I believe is for the 220. If you've got the 170 and really want to have a bomber system look into upgrading both Alt and Batt. Plenty of aftermarket options up into the 300 Amp range too.
