DFM Delete anyone

You should not have to pay anywhere near $10k, or even $7k for a DoD delete. Guys have had engine replacements for $10k, including the new motor. If these are real prices you've received, keep shopping.

I was also talking about the cam swap with springs aswell which requires pulling the engine due to having to drop the oil pan on the LT series engines it's just easier.

But I agree on doing the whole engine as an alternative for the same price. I'm still working on getting quotes.

Even a cam shouldn't be that much - the customary DoD delete includes a new cam. Should be in the $3-5k range depending on area and type of shop. Custom tuning could add another $2k to that but that's all optional.

7k for labor and tune, 2,100 for cam kit with dod delete and head gaskets then how ever much the rest of the gaskets will be and oil. I rounded up to 10k for cushion.

You must be doing a lot more than just a "DoD delete" then. The delete kits including a cam and everything else needed are like $500-800 and labor to install should be $3k-ish. I was being generous not knowing how labor rates may vary in different areas so I went up to $5k total.

The options for the cam kit only have stock replacement cam, but including new ARP bolts which I believe you should always do upgraded bolts (imo) and some gaskets with LS7 lifters comes out to 1300. But, if your going to pay to have someone tear into your engine, while their in there. Might aswell upgrade to a performance cam and get some added hp and benefit from a good tune. It's only another 700 for the better cam and springs along with some upgraded hardware.

But my initial point was if I was going to drop that much cash for a dod delete and mild upgrade. Might aswell just do a whole engine, maybe opt for a 6.2 since I'm considering all of this work. Make it a stronger more reliable platform to really enjoy some good off roading.

Am I going to follow through with it, idk. When I bought the truck 4 years ago, I didn't see myself spending this much on a what used to be farely simple upgrade and what could be a possible necessity due to a common issue.

Ok...just wanted to point out that you don't HAVE to spend that much for a DoD delete, even upgrading the stuff you should. But it is a lot cheaper to just keep it under warranty. That's what i'm going to do. GMEPP powertrain for 8yrs for my truck is under $2k.

Has anyone done a full DFM delete? (not just electronic) what cam did you use and what was the total cost with all the reprograming?
I just did one, can, lifters, oil plugs and I could find someone to reprogram the ecu, so I plugged in a Boost Disabler. It runs perfectly, but there’s engine light came on, it’s getting a code for all 8 oil solenoids, they’ve been removed, but I would have thought the Disabler would trick them out.
So far I’m into it for about 2800 CDN in hard parts. I lost track of but likely 40-50 hours. It is my first one and I can probably cut 15 hours out it.
