2025, 5.3 12k mikes, dealer changed the oils @ 4k, I did 8k and just finished the change @ 12k. Put in 8 qts with a new filter, ran and checked everything. Checked the stick and it didn't register. Added another qt and it reads I'm a qt. low? Anyone else have this issue? My dipstick is 23 1/2" long if that helps....(that reads weird)....Thanks...

if it is in the cross hatch area middle upper you are fine. Don't go over the cross hatch. Over fill is bad:(

A little over fill isnt going to hurt anything. Even up to half a quart wont cause an issue. But a quart(s) thats another story.

and what is so bad about over filling ? and by how much ???

just asking for those who may not know....

If your oil level is still off after waiting at least 15 minutes and the truck is on flat level ground, maybe go to the dealer parts department and ask them to look up the correct dip stick and tube for your truck based on VIN and physically take a look for differences with yours. Had a late 80's camaro come in to a shop I was working at 30+ years ago with a dipstick tube that somehow was too short. Owner thought he needed new lifters but it turned out that he only had 2.5 Qts of oil in his oil pan when it read full... Stranger things have happened. Maybe you ended up with a wrong part.

Has to be overfull enough that the crankshaft counterweights slap into the oil in the pan. Causes foaming of the oil and all those air bubbles don't lubricate the bearings, etc... and can also overpressure the crankcase and push oil into the PCV system.
