Lifter/Camshaft Replacement - 2021 Chevy TrailBoss LT Z71 5.3L - 105,135 miles.

Just got codes:
- P0301 Cylinder 1 misfire detected.
- P050D Cold start rough idle.

Had my mechanic look at it and says the lifters in cylinder 1 and the camshaft needs replacing. He recommends replacing all (16) lifters. All in with new parts and labor $7,000-$9,000!!!

I’m bringing it to the dealership for another opinion and a diagnostic test. Maybe GM Customer Assistance/Goodwill Assistance can help offset the price if they fix it. My vehicle is out of warranty.

I understand this has been an ongoing problem and it is affecting a lot of GM owners. There have been several bulletins issued by GM acknowledging this problem but no official recalls. Anybody else experiencing this nightmare? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Delete the dfm parts. Find a competent performance shop in your area. You can have them install a stock profile cam (L8T cam if you have a 5.3) and it will drive absolutely the same. You’ll never have this problem again. No change in fuel mileage.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes out cheaper than the dealership charges to just replace the OE parts. If you put more DFM lifters in, it’s going to happen again.

I do them for locals for ~$5k for a 14-18. ~$6k for a 19+ due to the extra ecm unlock cost. But I just do it as a side gig and don’t pay for a bunch of overhead.
