I recently had an amp and a small self powered sub installed and the installer hooked it up so that any time the truck "wakes up" the power comes on to the units. So any time I hit unlock on the fob or open the door, they power up. I was under the impression that they should have been connected to the radio power so that they only come on when the radio is turned on. Am I wrong or did they not get hooked up correctly? TIA

where did he tap for power ON from ?
here is what i followed when i installed the GM Kicker sub...you could try a meter and see what the power is doing from these ports.

i honestly didnt even bother to see is was signaled from the head unit or not.

My Kicker powers up as soon as I unlock the doors. I’ve had it in for a year and no issues with battery drain. Kicker instructions say that the blue power-on wire need not be connected.
I’m guessing that Chris’ installer did not connect the power-on wire to the radio.
