shifting out of park without starting

May be a dumb question, did you press the park brake button to see if it will release?

Did you put your foot on the brake when trying to shift ?
Mine is basic no collision alert no parking assist no auto braking maybe less electronics ?
Yep….and maddeningly it didn’t work…I had hope for a moment. It’s a 2024, so I’m sure they found out about the work around and immediately put a stop to that! Mine does have all the electronic stuff you mentioned…gotta pay more to get less.😂😡😡🤬

I've been trying to just accept that there's nothing I can do about it.

I should have been more diligent in my research before trading trucks, so I drive this one. Also the undesirable stuff Ford and Ram bring to the table too.

Any other move I make will be a financial disaster. A couple of hundred $$$ module disabled the dfm/afm & auto stop start features. I hope someone will come up with one for the over zealous electronic shifter. It's so unnatural to push forward for reverse and far too easy to enter the paddle shift mode. Never thought I'd miss the rotary shift on the Ram.

you do realize, ALL console shift vehicles push forward for reverse ? i can not think if one that ever differed.

even in our race vehicles with a manual reverse valve body, PRN...and so on, so once on gear... Reverse is always been forward.
granted, bumping back to go paddle shift is a simple touch...but i can assure you, if any one knows, i do...you wont NEED 10th gear till about 80 mph. 99% of my driving is in Manual and set to 7 or 9.
