What's new

Let's see those Trail Boss trucks towing!

Moo-ved about 1000 pounds of American beef in a 14x5 stock trailer. Sorry, can’t help a good dad joke.

Umm, not sure how to reply to this thread. Best I just show you the video. Trailer weight was 42,000+ (that's not a typo) in freight, not including weight of the trailer (a heavy ass refer), tractor and mud resistance. Not in a million years did I believe my TB could do this. Listen to the video carefully to hear that beautiful 6.2 rev up and big ass tires spinning on the concrete.

Yep. GM keeps saying no fix yet, BUT owners on GM truck forums have had success using the new controller. There was some controversy regarding part numbers in that some reported that it was an old number, however it appears the part number of the “bad” units being pulled out is different. Possibly older controller not working with the refreshed software. I have the new controller here as well, but since it’s Colorado in February I’m not taking out the MiniLite!! If GM doesn’t fess up by April, I’ll put it in myself, but the process looks like a bit of a PITA. Well worth $30 to me.
GM has completed the recall on the trailer brake issue and it is the new controller. Getting mine done Monday. I was hoping I didn’t have to do it myself… plenty of time before trailer season in CO starts.

update! I tested the trailer this morning on a 30 mile loop. I pressed both the pedal brakes and manual override as well as adjusted the gain pretty much the entire loop and not a single issue! Trailer is fixed with the new part# swap! Now if I can just convince gm to pay for the $20 dollar part and my time! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Thanks for all the work and updating us all. Guess I'll have a project for next weekend.

17.5!!! Were you towing or being pushed?
Haha I've been nothing but impressed with the baby duramax so far. I honestly think it will do even better without the traffic I was in for half of the test drive. Car plus trailer is under 5k pounds so I'm not super surprised. I'll be towing across country, Oregon to upstate NY in a few weeks for the real mpg test though!

finally got a chance to tow something! Truck tows great, did a small 45 mile loop with plenty of traffic and some highway driving and average 17.5mpg!

That's awesome! I love Vipers, such a timeless design!

Finally after 7 months of waiting for the "Trailer Brake" fix, I'm able to tow. 25ft Rockwood MiniLite, about 6000 lbs loaded with a HW of about 700 lbs, depending on how much water I'm carrying. I did get the GM Transparent Trailer camera and between that and the trailering app its a joy to tow. Well worth the wait!!

Trailering experts, a question, if you please. I'm used to pulling with big diesels and trailers which meant little to them. I'm possibly going to pull a travel trailer that is 6386 lbs dry weight with a GVWR of 8800lbs with my trail boss. how "comfortable" will the truck handle it.
