Early-ish oil change?

Actually, here's some great newer videos on this from Lake Speed Jr aka The Motor Oil Geek on YouTube:

Well im short 2 break in oil changes...other than that ...i think my routine is pretty solid

I did my first at ~750 miles. Next one is planned for 2K. I sent a sample off to Blackstone just as a baseline; that has not come back yet. I also dissected the oil filter to look for any obvious debris but there was none. I also ran a strong neo magnet over the filter element. There was some of the normal 'snot' but nothing outrageous. I am still wary of this LZ0 digesting its thrust bearings but time will tell.

I would recommend 25k on the transmission fluid. I replaced mine around 22k and I couldn’t believe how bad it was already.

Damn...wonder if thats the Chinese pot metal falling apart...

I will be changing my oil at 500 miles or so.

It seemed like it was full of friction material and wasn’t totally burnt, but I could tell the one time it got warmer than I’d like (~235F, I watch transmission temperatures regularly) for a few minutes when climbing a hill before I put it in low range didn’t help.
For what it’s worth, I put in Amsoil ULV and am coming up on the next 25k mark and the Amsoil seems to be holding up better (shifting has been better), but the dealer also overfilled the transmission during that first 20k, so the poor shifting (clunk on downshift) was likely caused by that and not the fluid itself.

After taking delivery of my truck, I actually replaced all the fluids (transmission fluid, brake fluid, front and rear differential, engine coolant, engine oil) with the Amsoil brand. I did not do that with my other Trail Boss (which turned out to be a Lemon), but this TB, I decided to change out all fluids immediately and put in Amsoil. Hopefully this will be a good move on my part.

Looking at the list of people's trucks that had this issue. (Saw it somewhere on here), it seems to happen with-in the first 5-10,000K (3,100 - 6,200 miles). I did not see any of the reported issues happen to trucks past 10K so it seems to appear pretty fast, if it is going to at all.

U tow heavy?

Update: First change at 500 miles. Just completed another change at 1500.

My LZ0 hasn't eaten a thrust bearing (yet?).

Also drained/refilled the front and rear diff fluids at 1500. Used the GM spec 75w85 (I have AAM axles per my dealer). I wasn't surprised that the fluid was still clean. Factory fill on the rear was right on. Front was actually just a little low. Now they're both serviced and ready to go for a while.

I'm getting a coolant smell just after shutdown, coming from the right side of the engine. No obvious leaks so I'm guessing it's just a trace from a bad fitting somewhere. Kinda waiting for the engine to blow up TBH, that way I won't have to take it in separately for the coolant leak 👍 If the engine goes, the truck is going away.

I did get my Blackstone oil report back. Thankfully all looks normal break-in so far. Time and future analyses will tell more.
