Lifter Fail While Camping

Sorry to hear this. Question, did you install the pulsar lt by chance. I am at 26000 with my 2020 with the 6.2, and these post make me nervous. I have the pulsar, and catch can installed.
The Pulsar DOES NOT prevent lifter failure. It is a mechanical failure, it DOES NOT have to do with DFM. There is a you tuber I had followed for a while that had a 6.2 and had the Pulsar on it and his lifters still failed.

From what I have found it is a part specific problem from a GM supplier.

Accurate Engines is local to me. I haven't used them but they are a known good business from people in the automotive circle around here.
That is good to know, from someone actually there.
And it seems like GM is at least moving along with the work for Steve. That's good news, too.

Is there any build dates that you know of affected, or is it jus the luck of the draw if they fail or not. My truck was built Sept 2020. So far so good.

Agree, for a mechanical failure due to weak components & poor design. The second failure mode is during mis-timed switching events where DFM is turning lifters on/off at wrong time. This type of failure is minimized and may even be prevented by the Pulsar. Which is why I elected to install one.

So I know there is only one way to know for sure but... I reserved a band new 2022 Refresh TB in October of 2022. The dealership couldn't give me all the specifics on the truck until it came in. Once it was delivered in Decmeber I went to look at the truck and realized GM built the truck without AFM or DFM. They actually gave me a $50 credit because "Parts were unavailable" to add the cylinder deactivation. Needless to say I was thrilled! I'm starting to wonder if my truck has solid lifters and maybe I lucked up and won't have any issues. Like I said, only one way to know for sure and obvisouly I'm not tearing it down to check!

Just figured I would share this unique build since we are on the topic of lifters.

Mine was definitely mechanical. As I described it was a remote cold start. I was 10 feet from the truck, 30 seconds after it fired I heard it break with a very loud crack. I knew instantly what it was. I got in the truck and had the 3 dreaded warnings to confirm it. I shut it down and did not drive it. Driving an engine with a failed lifter leads to even more catastrophic failures. GM tried to use my quick shut down against me in my fight to get both banks replaced. I was told the condition of the cam shaft is a big factor in deciding one bank or two. My cam shaft was fine because of the quick shut down. I had to fight hard to get both banks replaced.

The supposed last batch of the bad lifters was found in April of 2021. My truck was built in May of 2021 so I'm RIGHT on the border line of when this was found. It depends when the engine parts were used up if my engine has the suspect lifters or not.

The no DFM has to do with the electronics NOT the mechanical lifters. The mechanicals are the same in all engines. All the chip shortages is what caused the DFM to not be in some trucks.

I dug into this a little deeper yesterday and found the same information. I was hoping to get away from the pinning lifters all together.

Me too. Mine was April 21 in Indiana. So fingers crossed

To finalise this I can say GM did end up replacing both banks of lifters. That is not standard practice. I had to fight for it. I told them repeatedly if both sides were not repaired I would be forced to sell the truck. This is a back country vehicle for me. It would have been useless to me knowing for sure I have a build with the bad batch. In the end they made the right decision and gave it a proper fix.

I have a 2022 6.2 TB that I love, I bought from dealer Dec 2021 with no issues until it reach 26,733 miles. Driving home from work at Midnight going up a bridge on the interstate the Truck just stopped good thing no one was behind me, I put the truck in neutral let it go down hill so I can park it on a safe spot. Called onstar and Truck was brought to Dealership in Lake Charles,la now dealership is saying that the engine needs to be replace and truck still under warranty, But it will be several months before GM can send them a new engine so it can be replace, They put me on a rental until the truck gets fixed but they put me on a Chevy Equinox because they on can pay $40 a day for a rental.

Dang. They supposedly had found the bad lifters and they were used up/removed in April of 2021. My truck was built in May 2021 so I'm RIGHT on the edge of when there could have still been bad parts according to information I found. I have about 16,500 miles on my truck now. Do they know if it's lifters or something else? Normally they don't replace the entire engine. They replace the entire lot of lifters and possibly the heads if damaged.

Service advisor didn't go to much on detail. He just said the technician check the motor and it won't turn so it needed to replace. The wait time would be several months, he has one on the back that has been waiting 3 months for a new engine. Like I said I love my truck and hopefully GM will do me right, good thing I wasn't pulling my boat because it would gotten ugly coming down that bridge.
