LT Tires

I just had Cooper AT Strongholds LT installed. Discount set them to 35 and feel too soft which is normal since the LT has to have an increased air pressure to get to the same load limit as the SL rated tires. I'll be pushing mine up to 50 psi (tomorrow AM) to get up to 2470 but when I tow I'll be pushing all four tires to 55 psi (2635 lbs) or 60 psi (2800 lbs) when towing. (Using an weight distribution/sway control hitch.)

However, after running these at 50 psi, I'll be chalk testing to see how the contact pattern is.

Makes me think I should bump mine up a bit. They are pretty new and I haven't had them in for balance and rotation yet. Thanks for the info!

Hey Ret-G,
Just wondering how your liking the new tires, running them at 50 psi ?
My Toyo Lt's are running at 45-46 when warmed up, seems like a sweet spot for wear and tear and driveabilty feel.

So far ride is ok for the high pressure in the E-rated tires. I expected as much. Going to hit them up to 60 psi for the trailer; however, between trips will bring down in pressure. Will try chalk tests at 45-50 and see what they look like.

10/4...took me awhile to find a good psi for the E rated tire, keep me posted how your chalk test goes (y)

I currently has C Rated tires thinking of going to E Rated possibly the Cooper AT Stronghold. How much harsher is the ride with the E Rated vs C Rated. Is there that noticeable ride? Mostly drive on roads and the beach.

i can tell you this, if you adjust PSI by chalk to your trucks weight...i have never noticed a real ride quality change when going to an E load.

You can feel the rid with E-rated tires over C or even D rated. With these cooper's on a rough road you will feel it and on a smooth paved road not so much. Noise is not bad at all but there is an increase in road noise.
After living in Grand County UT (three miles from Moab) for seven years with a Hummer H3 and Heep Wrangler, I'm used to E rated tires and a hell of a lot more noise than these AT give off.
The bridestones were great tires but with a larger trailer wanted the extra load capabilities of an E rated tire.

(Please no BS about the H3 being a Colorado/Canyon...only thing common was the engine/trans all other suspension and frame components were changed or half ton sized. And only places the H3 could not go where the Heep did were due to width and usually just an obstacle on the trail vs. the actual trail. Only two trails I did not do while living in Moab were Pritchett and Coyote canyon.)
