Oil and Filter change

I am surprised that more, at least 6.2L folks here aren't doing a heavier oil like a 0w40 like GM is now recommending/doing on the 6.2's. I am a 5.3L and my next oil change will be a 5w30 Full Synthetic. I have used the last of my freebie oil changes from the stealership.
I am debating doing 0W-40 or 5W-30. I do have the 6.2 but it's before the engines affected by the recall. I am leaning towards 0W-40 but I'm not sure. Definitely more options with 5W-30. Mobil 1's FS European Formula seems to be the only 0W-40 with a Dexos approval that is affordable unlike the Supercar formula.

Lately, I have been doing more and more research regarding oil viscosity and best protection for the motor as explained by many individuals, whether this be so-called engineering experts, lubrication specialists, mechanics, etc., I have mainly concluded that [in my opinion] as long as I do not stray too far from the OEM recommendation because of internal clearances and such, I will base much of my decision making for what viscosity to use on the current climate/weather at the moment. For instance, if a vehicle recommends OEM 0w20 and I am going to do normal city/highway driving and the season of the year is warmer, I may go up to a 5w30 or even a 5w40. I have read and seen numerous videos stating the "Winter" number, "0w" in this example, you should not increase it and if you do, you should try to remain as close to the OEM recommended "Winter" number as possible. However, I made a choice to go up one viscosity to "5w". The second viscosity number is based on the operating/ambient temperatures of the motor which I will increase it from a "20" to a "30". I will do a used oil analysis and once I get the results, I will make a decision whether to continue using the 5w30. When the colder season comes again, I may go to a 0w30. I want to keep my "operating" viscosity the same at 30 weight in the cold season. With this said and dependent on oil analysis, I will decide what to continue running for the colder seasons and the warmer seasons. But, as of now during the warmer season, I will switch from a 0w20 OEM recommendation to a 5w30.

i despise the fact that DEXOS is nothing more than a money grab for GM....it is a BS spec that doesnt exist to anyone except them....sadly, everyone typically has to pay as the oil companies pay for that logo...

Yeah I'm not knowledgeable enough on that subject to comment. But I do know that API-SP is the biggest approval to look for with our direct injection engines. I just personally make sure it is also Dexos 1 Gen 3 or better as well.

I have been using 5w- 30 since 10000km now at 34000km here in New Zealand

This looks like some good information.

Ok, I am not confused at all now. From what I got out of this is, unless I am towing, to stay with whatever is on oil refill cap from the manufacturer. I get the whole W part but if I am running my engine as designed with the whole DFM/AFM and start/Stop the whole thinner oil concept maybe makes sense. But...I am not doing that since I run a Carbyte DFM/AFM and start/Stop disabler, causing me to run on all 8 cylinders w/o the truck shutting off, then I think bumping up to 5W30 Full Synthetic is going to be beneficial in the long run
