Rear Interior Dome Light Upgrade - Plug and Play

Ok, got this installed and am finally getting around to a review here. Initial observations: it is SUBSTANTIALLY brighter than OEM. It floods the rear seating area with more than enough useful light, from headliner to floor. Though it does throw some useful light into the front, it certainly isn't a cure for the ridiculously lacking light in the front (not that I expected it to cure that as it is, after all, a rear light, but I was hoping for a bit more than it provides). The plug and play nature was the most appealing part for me as I am not super confident in my electrical work skills. For that it is really nice, though I will say, pulling the OEM part off wasn't as easy as the install video made it seem. Took quite a bit of force to pull the clips free. That, however, was the extent of any difficulty in the install process. Aesthetically, it's not awful looking, but it is a little more crude compared to the OEM part, but I don't plan to spend too much time staring up a the rear dome light. The $100 price point seems a bit steep for what it is for sure. But, it helps solve at least part of the poor lighting problem very simply, which for me at least, adds to it's value. If somehow a plug and play option could be made for the front (unlikely, I know), I'd gladly pay at least $100 for it. Pics below are OEM on top with upgrade on bottom.

Does your headliner have a gap after install. I feel like the boost part doesn't have clips on the side to hold the headliner and now there is a gap on mine.

I am planning on doing my pillar trims all in black, the headliner i don't mind being lighter, but I prefer not seeing the pillars through the front glass.
Can you get them in black? I've only ever seen them in light gray in all trucks. Or are you just going to paint/dye them black?

I plan to paint mine. SEM makes some nice aerosol colors that last....prep, adhesion promotor, color.

My 89 has been done since 2010, and other than high wear areas....the interior looks like day 1

This is a good question. I left this off of my review as I planned to call Boost to ask if this should fit as snug as the OEM part. Mine doesn't have a gap, however upon pushing on it, it feels a little mushy, almost like it needs to get that final "click" to snug it up. I tried everything I could to get it to snug up, but worried I was going to break the housing from pressing too hard. Still considering calling customer service to see if they have any insight, but it's stayed in place over the last couple weeks since installing it, so I may just let it ride too.

See if the metal clips are the same length and they are fully seated on the new part. If they're longer they won't fit as snug as the stock part. You could try swapping clips and see if it makes it better.

Yeah I used SEM to paint the dash in my 86 S10 from blue to light gray. Worked great unless I scraped it with something metal.
