Hi, I'm looking for better (reinforced) upper arms that fit my original or standard tires/wheels (275/65 R18) and can be installed without extra spacers, so that they don't rub on the tire. I had already talked to a forum member and was pointed to the upper arms from Cognito (see link).
cognitomotorsports.com
After that, I contacted Cognito just to be sure, asking if extra spacers were necessary, and received the following response:
These SM series control arms can clear OE wheels and tires, but would need at least .25” simple wheel spacer or or you have to jump to a 1.5” wheel adapter/spacer.
Typically the standard tubulars arms can clear stock wheels and stock tires, but often times the 18s are not offset enough so you still may need spacers like mentioned above.
Then I also asked Bilstein about their upper arms (see link).
and the answer was as follows:
Thank you for contacting Bilstein of America and your interest in our products. Our B8 Control arms require wheels with a maximum of 4.75" of backspacing. Below I have provided you with instructions on how to obtain the measurements of your wheels backspacing so you may verify fitment. I hope you found this information helpful. If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach back out.
Since I have no clue about all this and the return shipping would be very complicated and expensive, I’d like to be on the safe side before having anything sent to me here in Germany. That’s why I prefer to ask multiple times, I hope you understand that.
Does anyone have any experience they could share with me? I’d be grateful for any tip.
Thanks a lot, everyone!
