Tonneau Covers

Finished product. BAK Revolver X4s
Considering buying this. How secure/lockable do you feel this is compared to other hard covers? Would you be comfortable using it in a city? Thanks!

I have this one as well, I would say the security is realistically about on par with the hard trifolds (I hade a BAK trifold on a previous truck). I use mine in the city, but do not leave lots of valuables in the bed unattended on a city street for large periods of time. These covers are more for having a (mostly) rainproof area for gear and allow for ease of rolling it up to fit taller items or unload in seconds, but are only really good protection from the 'crime of opportunity' type. All it would take is a crowbar to get in, so the smash and grab types could find a way relatively easy and quickly.

If security is a big concern for valuables regularly stored unattended for extended periods, something like a Diamondback cover would be a better option, or pair the x4s with a decked system.

Looking to add a Tonneau cover to my Trail Boss... Just looking for help and opinions on the different types and manufacturers. Thank you... also, pictures would be great!
I went with the Tyger tri fold. its not bad, but I wish I would have gone with a hard tri fold cover. mine gets very dusty and is kind of a pain to fold up. it doesn't look as clean as a hard cover either. anyways you live and you learn, hope you can take some knowledge from my mistake!

It's great! I actually just checked the brackets last week for "piece of mind" considering I am the one who installed it and they were still as secure as they were when I first installed them. I mainly drive around the city but have taked trips from Colorado to Nebraska and Missouri. No issues.

My friend suggested me to use a Tonneau cover. It really saves gas and increases mileage. Also, it increases the speed of pickup. There are several brands and different types of Tonneau covers. I will suggest you to choose according to your needs.

The BAK Flip covers are good, and they give you more usable bed space as opposed to retractable covers. I have a retractable one, and if I was to do it over again, I'd go with another BAK Flip. Another selling point for the BAK product is that all of them that I have had have sealed well too. I have the Rough Country on my truck and it doesn't seal worth a crap, and in the winter time you're not getting into the bed because it gets snow in it and doesn't work at all.

I went with the Diamondback cover, very expensive but well made… Pretty straightforward install.. Mine is 100% water proof and comes with the heavy duty lock system. It’s also a trifold so very easy to put things in the bed and get them out.
I know this is an old post but worth a try..

Have you or anyone had problems opening and closing the auto only tailgate with diamondback hD cover? Only thing holding me back.

I'm not the OP who you are replying to, but I have the Diamondback HD on my 24 Trailboss, and I haven't had any problem with it opening or closing. I always double-check it by hand anyway, but it has never not opened or closed automatically. I've had mine on for about a month and absolutely love it. And, the HD looks great on these trucks! I highly recommend it.

I will tell you something a buddy of mine who works for a GM body shop told me. DO NOT overload the top of the HD with anywhere close to 1600 lbs like Diamondback says you can. He mentioned that there isn't a pickup truck made that will hold up to that much weight on the truck bed rails. The cover is awesome, but that part of their advertising scheme is 100% BS. You will ruin your truck if you put that much weight on the bed rails.

Since the thread is up and rolling again. I’ve had the BAK MX4 and currently running the newest version of the BAK Revolver X4TS. I’ve also had a lock till rolling cover. To me tonneau covers are all about priority and what you need. I wish I had one or the other any given day.

The Revolver X4ts has been most waterproof cover I’ve owned . I’d probably pick one as my top choice if I was in market again. But I world not done t slot rails again. I’d do a dedicated frame /overlanding style rack instead.

My MX4 dripped from the panel seals on each panel in storms.

Thecteteax styke was a nightmare in the frozen tundra of the upper Midwest . It was constantly freezing shut .

I went with the Retrax Pro MX cover and absolutely love it.
On the pricier side, but definitely worth it in my opinion.
Downside people will say is the room the roll storage container takes in the bed especially with a short box, but for my needs it doesn’t affect me at all. In addition, I have the Multi pro tailgate and I’ve ridden with the upper division down as it also has a flip ledge to serve as a back stop. It extends the bed a few inches. Love this damn truck.

24 Trail Boss owner here. I am currently searching for a good tonneau cover, and so far, my top choice is the Bak Revolver X4TS. Is there any reason why I should not get this one? Also, does it have to be opened to operate the tailgate or will the tailgate open and close just fine with the cover latched down? Thanks.

2024 Trail Boss as well and i purchased the Bak Flip MX4, also lined my box with Go Rhino, the cover sits perfect and had no leaks (1 summer and this winter)
I have the muliti tailgate, the cover will stop the gate from dropping directly, a slight tug on tailgate will release it though, which is not a problem for me, its a solid well built product, pricey but meets my needs

All of the above have been disproven.
Actually… some reports have seen a loss of mog with hard tonneus!
Will not affect speed.

TFL Truck YouTube channel actually did a comparison test a little while back to see if a tonneau helps with MPG. It did. I can't speak for speed though, never heard of that one.
