What's new

Valve Lifter

Yes, gents, round 2 with the 5.3 lifters. Dlr replaced one bank last month. 2000 miles later, some thing. Can't wait to hear if it's on the side they didn't fix (hopefully) or same side (hope not). Can't get it in until next Tues or Wed, so for now it's parked.
Confirmed it was collapsed lifterz in the opposite bank they replaced last month.
Round 2 complete! She has all new lifterz now! Upside, good dealer, it went in Tuesday, was done last night. Downside, top end of engine removed twice now in the last month...
They and I both wish they'd done both sides the first time....

UPdate: collapsed lifter #1 Cylinder. National backorder. No idea how long I'll be out of my truck.
That sucks! Hope Merry Xmas where you live doesn't involve any of that white stuff falling out of the sky! Idk if they make studded tires for crotch rockets!

From what I’ve read it’s build dates 11/2020 thru 3/2021 but I’ve also seen people with 5/21 build dates having lifter issues. Who knows. 🤷🏼‍♂️
Hey All, new member. Bought my 2021 Z71 Trail Boss (5.3L) in April, it now has 7,400 miles and had to bring it in to the dealer today, it was throwing P0304 Code, cylinder 4 misfire. Dealer told me it’s a collapsed Lifter and it’s a known issue. Besides being completely pissed off about having to have the engine cracked to fix it, I had to push them to change both banks of lifters. I was told that because I have under 9k miles they will change both banks. We shall see…And more great news is that they can’t get the lifters for possibly 3 weeks. The dealer told me that GM was extending the warranty on cases like this. I called GM Customer Service about it and they said they have to get back to me on that. We shall see…..

Has anyone that had this issue gotten am extended warranty, courtesy of GM ?

Also, how do I tell what Month My Truck was built in ?

thanks

Truck build date is on the sticker on your driver side door panel. Engine build date is on the Juilen sticker on the engine block.

Thank You !
The engine date will look something like this N221098.... where N is the engine factory- 2 is the shift it was built during - 21 is the year - 098 is the 98th day of the year.

Cool, like a dumbass, I just walked out my driveway to check the sticker and realized the truck is at the Dealer. It’s gonna be a long three weeks

It is horrible these lifter issues. I am sure hoping that it is just a bad batch of lifters and that will resolve this issue. I've owned GM trucks since the early 1990s and recently purchased my 2022 Trailboss LTD and my only concern is these damn lifter issues. I have had two other GM trucks with the AFM and did not have any problems, but I also used the Range device to deactivate the AFM.

Had a 2008 5.3 Suburban.
Put 200k miles on it with zero problems.
10K on my 2021 TB.
Build date 12-2020. Fingers crossed😬

Reading through the Forum, I am going to get the Pulsar LT. I had a 2007 Yukon with the AFM and it burnt more oil than gas,,,, not going through that nightmare again,,, especially now that it’s lifters !!

No snow in South Louisiana. Mid 40's this morning made for a miserable commute.
