10 speed transmission fluid change interval?

Update....If your truck has the RPO code MQB than you have the 10 speed 10L80 tranny. Yes you can service the tranny yourself. Check out this link of someone doing it himself. It's a good video, but I would see if you could not take out the O2 sensors and still get it done? A good mechanic can do it cheaper than a dealership.

I planning on changing mine every 20-25K and t-case and rear diff every 50K or so. I did both t-case and rear diff with around 5K on the truck to get all the break-in stuff out.

Not sure what your mechanical abilities are but the transmission is definitely a DIY type of thing. It seems more difficult reading about it but once you get into it it's not that bad, just messy. I didn't have to drop the exhaust so that's an additional steps and parts that I'm not familiar with.

How did you not have to drop the exhaust?

I have the 3.0 so I don't have the crossover pipe that the V8s do.

Dealer is telling me the 10 speed in my Trailboss is not serviceable and does not require a fluid change.
In owner's manual it says every 45k for severe duty (which I'm not), but if it's not serviceable, why would it list that interval?

Your dealer is an idiot! Your transmission is absolutely serviceable just as your owner's manual states! I actually removed the stock pan and installed an aftermarket PPE deep cast aluminum pan with a drain plug making it at least easier to drain and fill (if not changing filter which I would not recommend). Soon after I purchased the truck, I drained/refilled and changed out the filter with Amsoil tranny fluid. Any dealer that tells you it is not serviceable or that the tranny is sealed and does not need to be serviced is either lazy or simply a dumbass!

As far as I know, all 1500s have the 10L80. The 10L90 is in the performnace vehicles like the Camaro ZL1 and Escalade-V. I'm not sure if it's in any of the HD trucks or not.

For the 5.3, the two RPO codes for the 10L80 should be MQB or MQE.

For the 3.0, the RPO code is MQC.

Download the "decodeRPO" app in Play store or Apple store scan the driver side QR code and it will give you a list of all your RPO codes that pertain to your truck

Is that the list that you got by scanning the QR code with your camera? I remember doing that with mine and it was worthless.

If your dealer is close, stop by and have them print off your build sheet or call and have them email it. The list that they have is much more detailed. It had probably double the RPO codes than what I got when I scanned it. It will even show the order date, build date, etc.

Why would you not recommend changing the filter?

To elaborate on the phrase I stated: "if not changing filter which I would not recommend"...The meaning behind what I stated was implied to be meant as this option I DO NOT recommend. If doing a drain and fill, I would ALWAYS recommend replacing the filter. The reason I stated what I did was because I have heard people thruout the years say they only do a drain and fill and not replace the filter.
