What's new

$80k Tesla truck at Walmart....

The truck is so ugly imo that it doesn't look factory made, more like a half baked concept vehicle at a car show.

...anyway, open the mind...realize, YOU dont have to have to buy one. but if it fits someone else's venue....let it be.
The problem is, governments are going to mandate that we own these things in the not-so-distant future. Battery technology is good, but it's just not there yet. Add in the cold of northern climates like where I live (Northern Ontario, Canada) and battery range diminishes greatly.

In an emergency/evacuation/SHTF scenario, you can throw gas cans in the back and extend your range. If the power grid is down, you're cooked.

I'm thinking EV is going to go away. If you have time I would encourage everyone to see how much of the environment is destroyed to make lithium batteries. Fracking is way better for the environment you will see. Then call your electric company to see how much it will cost to put fast charging in your house! Power grid drain. Then call your insurance company and see what insurance will cost a month! That will shock you!!! There is no advantages to EV. EV's destroy more of our environment then fuel or emissions ever will. Remember there is only so much lithium as well. Remember Lithium is a very volatile material. Add water or other igniters and you have a fire death trap. Where I live a Tesla with five people hit a tree. Instant fire and dead instantly. I'll take chances with a gas vehicle. When the Lithium runs out, then what? Supply and demand and again, EV won't be around forever IMO. Not sustainable.

Guessing I will be blocked after this. Don't believe the media, research it.

Hydrogen of some sort will likely be the fuel that kills the gasoline engine. Still 10-30 years out.

That silver thing in the OP's picture is not a truck. It's a very cool E-ute for those who want to be seen, but a truck it is not.

I think electric vehicles are really cool. I love the simplicity. If I was an urban hipster, I’d probably own one. But I’m not. I hunt, fish, and tow, so an EV truck would be too limited in range for my requirements. I’m hoping hydrogen is the fuel of the future, but splitting methane or water to isolate hydrogen will take tremendous amounts of energy, and we don’t have that capacity (we also don’t have the electrical capacity to make the EV switch). For now, I think fuel efficient ICE engines still make the most sense

never said i would own one, although as a play vehicle maybe....just dont understand the hate.

could be soon than you think...although this is only 500hp, it seems like for forced induction....but only because 1000hp is the new 500

The hate is completely on Tesla/Elon. It's very much like the hate for the Ford Ecoboost V6 when it first came out - the manufacturer makes "world beating" promises that the product can't possibly live up to, fanboys latch on and spread the myth(s), and then sensible humans who live in reality speak up and get labeled "haters".

In a sense you are right - if you take the vehicle they call "Cybertruck" as a trendy and stylish, technology-forward, E-Utility vehicle and also don't mind dealing with kit-car level quality as a tradeoff (and have the money to burn), its a super cool vehicle that i'm sure would be a lot of fun to go out and be seen in. Just don't market it as a truck, because it'll become a laughing stock (like it is). If I were to win one or somehow get one for free, i'd totally rock it. But I wouldn't sell my TB.
