Replacing brakes & Rotors

So I have a 2021 to- 46k miles, brake wear shows 7%left in back and 53% left in front. Weak later dash said to service brakes.. took to dealership and they said back pads are 4mm and front have 5mm and backs need to be changed. Anyone else hear of this? Odd that backs already need to be changed and I have only used to tow 3 times. I know 2019 tb had a service alert on brake monitoring system but can’t find anything for a 2021. Any suggestions?
Brake monitoring system or parking brake issue.

Often times the technicians are too lazy to actually check and see if the pads are worn, vs a sensor error, so I would check myself since its super easy to do.

How do those new pads compare? I’m not convinced these OEM parts are that great.
I just installed them this weekend and so far they are working good, just make sure to follow the brake in procedure.

I have 2020 LT Trail boss I recently went to change my front brake pads this weekend. I ended up having to replace the driver side caliper due to leaking brake fluid when compressing caliper piston. After I completed the brake pad replacement for only the front pads. I went to start the car and I got all kinds of lights flashing on the dash, ABS, ECS, traction control found out I forgot to connect the new brake sensor to the harness. So I used my Pulsar LT to clear the codes and everything was working fine.

But my issue now, is that when I went to the brake life monitor setting on the dash to reset the front from 20% to 100% both front and back are "grayed out" now instead of being White lettering. I only have disable and Exit as options to click on. Before I had the option to reset. So I was wondering if anyone else had this happen to them and how did they fix it? Dealership is saying to take it to them so they can scan with OBD2 scanner. I don't want to remove the Pulsar LT but it sounds like I have no other option if I use a OBD2 scanner. I'll most likely have to buy myself my own scanner to save money from dealership charging a arm and a leg just for diagnosing the issue. Does anyone know what scanners can reset the brake sensor so I can set front pads to 100%

So I ended up pulling out my Pulsar LT and go to the dealership. To my astonishment they didn't charge me to reset my brake senor. I found out that you have to use a OBD2 scanner to reset the brake modules. It took the guy about 5 minutes to do it all. But he was reluctant to tell me which OBD2 scanner to use. But I did find out that Foxwell sells an scanner NT-710 that can reset the the modules. I'm sure there are others but I don't know which ones yet. Still researching on a good OBD2 scanner to buy

little late to this thread, but on several previous vehicles...

the Power Stop Z36 set up has been my go to...once I need pads, i do the rotor and pad package from powerstop...and it is noticeable

this truck will be no different

I don't have time to wait on a delivery. I'm grinding metal to metal in the back

My options in my area for pickup tomorrow are:

1) Duralast Gold Pads and Rotors

or

2) NAPA brand rotors and pads

Does anyone have any experience with these two brands?

Are they relatively equal, generally speaking?

thanks

Replaced all my pads front and read with BrakeBest Select Pro pads.
Love the pedal feel. They instantly grab, firm stop, but nice pedal.
My pedal almost feels like a HydroBoost pedal on the old 2500+

I was worried for awhile about this but then did some research into the IBC system these new trucks use in the mastercylinder if you have the E-Boost trailer assist package and collision avoidance equipped.

One thing i will say..... Set the truck in brake service mode for the rear brakes.
And for the love of god, if you do not have a scanner to clear codes...... DO NOT compress the pistons on all calipers anymore than necessary. Trust me on this.
Also, Disconnect the negative terminal prior to brake service. You'll thank me later.

Did you decide on a what scanner you were going to purchase? I’m ok spending $1000 as long as it lasts me the life of the truck. I need to do brakes as well. I was looking at the HF ICON T8 but the reviews were horrible on a few Reddit threads.

Do you own a scanner l? I need esp brakes and want to purchase a good scanner. I just don’t know which is best for a ‘21 trail boss

Having used the new pads about a year now. They have only worn down 10% and do a good job a stopping. I haven't hauled that much, so I can't compare that much in that category. But if I was hauling a lot I probably would upgrade the rotors too. I'm happy with the pads so far though.

I did get a scanner from Foxwell I got the Foxwell-NT710. Customer services is in China though. So it makes it hard talking to someone on the phone. They do speak English and all but since we aren't in the same time zone it makes things a bit difficult. There aren't many helpful videos either. But for the price and for what the scanner can do. I went ahead and purchased it. Cost about 200.00. Here the link to the scanner. https://www.foxwelldiag.com/products/foxwell-nt710?variant=48390371705114

Sorry to bring up this thread but needing to change the brakes on my 21 TB. I have just rolled over 100K miles and my rear sensor is giving me a warning now. As I understand you have to use a special OBD tool to reset the brake wear sensor? Is this correct?

Anyone used the Duralast Gold Ceramic Disc Brake Pad Set? Do I need rotors as well? I have done many complete brake replacement jobs in the past but most of the vehicles were used vehicles with much more miles so I just always did pads and rotors together. Wondering if I need to do rotors as well or if I can just do pads?

No you don't need a ODB scanner to reset the brake sensor. You can use the dash to reset the sensors.

The fronts are easy to change I just did the pads the rotors were still in good condition. I did mine at around 50K miles I think my backs are due soon. The wear sensor says 54% front and 34% back. I just did a tune up with new plugs and wire and coolant flush last week and the mechanicsaid I still have 7mm on front and back. I haven't looked myself though. My truck has around 96k miles on it now. For the the backs you just need to put the truck into brake mode to release the electric brake system. The ODB scanner could do it for you, that is if you have the correct ODB scanner to do it. There are also some YouTube videos showing you how to put rear into brake mode. I'll be changing my pads and rotors soon on all 4 as I tow a toy hauler heavy.

Bite the bullet and get Power Stop brakes. It’s pretty standard practice to change your rotors when doing pads. The pads come with new wear sensors. You can do it yourself on a ‘21 without a computer but if retracting the pistons on the calipers isn’t done correctly you will need the programer the fronts are no problem but the rears have the electric parking break. Although I love working on vehicles, not so much on my brand new truck with a a warranty. I’ve had a GM credit card card since I was 19, I have enough points that I’ll never have to pay the dealer out of pocket for repairs from normal wear and tear.
