I had soft trifold covers on several trucks over the years (ExTang Trifecta) and always worked well...until it didn't. I was unloading the bed and left the gate open when a derecho (straight-line wind gust) blew through, snapped the rear retaining clips (plastic) off and sent the whole cover (and frame) onto the roof, violently, where it snapped off the antenna and dented/scratched the roof.

Replaced with a hard tri-fold. I liked the added security of having a 'locked' bed enclosure. I had a RealTruck Advantage hard tri-fold put on my TB as part of the deal. Looks like @X-BoatCop 's cover above. The disadvantage with these is they are not easily removable if need be and when folded all the way up to expose the full bed they block the rear window.

And now for the other question with tonneaus....does it improve MPG? All kinds of 'scientific' studies both proving and disproving the theory. My experience is that if it does improve mpg it is marginal at best.

I had a bakflip on two different Colorado long beds for a span of 10 years. Not perfect but did alight considering. So I got the higher end model the MX4 for my new TB2500HD. Installing today.

I put the rough country hard roller on mine. It does good for what I need it for, but with a few cons.
1. Freezes up and is unusable in winter weather.
2. Lets water in like it’s its job.
3. You lose a foot of otherwise usable bed space.

MX4 BakFlip and a bedrug pad installed on a 2026 2500HD.
