these are a bolt in replacement, typically the "THUNK" you mostly likely speak of....is coming from Control Arms contacting the droop stop pads.OK. One last question. I understand this would depend on driving conditions... should there be any coil bucket contact, if the strut is set to its highest setting? At 80 years young, I won't be doing any of the wild stuff from years ago. However, I wouldn't want a "thunk" going over a parking lot speed bump.
when you level a truck (raising the front end), and do not address the control arms or droop pads, you may have a scenario where the make contact. the older torsion bar trucks were even worse.
on these models, if you look at the upper control arm...there is a small, thin pad placed under one side of the arm...this may or may not be 1. modified...BFH to flatten it down some 2. remove entirely
i personally do not recommend removal, but i also know i may HEAR it make contact. this is where some large ID heater hose makes a nice softener.
the whole reason most leveled trucks ride worse, was the droop travel has been reduced.
